I had decided that I dont really use my home phone enough anymore to justify keeping it..But after some consideration I thought about dropping down to the 500 minute plan..I was aware of the 9.99 charge to downgrade but thought if they would waive the fee that I would keep my home phone...I also have another voip provider and was going to port my number to them if they didnt want to waive the fee..So I emailed Vonage and asked them about waiving the fee and I also told them that I was going to cancel my service if not..Well evidently that 1 time charge of 9.99 means more to them than the 14.99 a month that they would have received..I dont know if they thought I was joking or what but I thought they would have taken it more seriously..So i guess I will be porting my number to my other provider where it will only cost me 9.99 per month for 500 minutes and they wont charge me 9.99 just to do it...So thanks vonage...ill just keep my 10 bucks ... |

Call them. You would have much better luck speaking to a retention agent than to simply email. I was able to get the unlimited plan for $14.99 a month by calling and saying I was going to cancel. I didn't really intend to cancel, but I read on the net in several places that at that time Vonage was basically giving that deal to anyone who called to cancel. You have to call them to cancel anyway or you can take the chance that simply porting your number away will cancel your account but I've read numerous horror stories about that. I agree that the fee stinks but it makes sense if you think about it. Without the fee, people would simply call and change their plans every month based on the usage for that month. |

I replied with another email saying "OK,Just thought I would ask before i cancelled" and about 30 minutes later they replied with a "yes" we can waive the fee...I guess they forwarded it to someone in the retention center....But they told me after I changed my plan that I would have to contact them to get the 9.99 credited to my account..So now I have to decide if this is going to be worth it....Am i gonna have to jump through hoops to get it?After they initially told me No...I went ahead and got the stuff together to port my number so I know that process should go effortlessly... |

Ball's in your court. Fish or cut bait. You asked for the fee waiver and they're going to give it to you. |

I would simply call. They can take care of everything on the phone and you can see the changes in your online account immediately. They can change your plan and waive the fee all in one process. I'm a little skeptical of the call later to credit the fee game. The whole process in my previous post took about 8 minutes total, so I wouldn't hesitate to call again rather than trust an email. |
