I have a VTA PAP2 Ver2
I use Airtel Broadband in India which comes with a wireless router.
My broadband line goes directly into the router.
I'm connecting my VTA to external power and attaching a cat5 cable from router to VTA.
When I switch on the external power, The power light on my VTA keeps blinking and does not turn to Solid Green State as mentioned in the User Manual.
I have tried using two diiferent power adaptors and the same problem persists.
I can't use the Power Adaptor sent along with the VTA because it takes 120V Power and in India, Power supply is 220V.
Please help me in solving this issue.

Just guessing here, but perhaps your replacement p/s isn't putting out enough current? I assume you went to a local store and purchased a power supply with the correct configuration for local receptacles. Did you make sure it had the same voltage and current output that the original has written on it?

Yes, Very much did.
Old adaptor was 12V 1000 mA
The new adaptor is exactly the same.
I have tried 4 different stores and everyone told me my new adaptor is fine.
I just came back from a 5th store and the salesman there told me the same thing.

A/C or D/C the same also? Maybe a dumb question since it sounds like you had people actually physically look at the original one and should have known the difference.

Well, if it's getting enough power then the only other possibility is that the device is bad. I suppose if you have someone in the states you could send it to them and ask them to plug it in and see if it goes solid green. If the device's MAC address is registered with Vonage and it's plugged into a high-speed connection then it should show solid green for the phone line as well.

The only other guess I can come up with is if you are not plugged directly into a wall outlet you might try bypassing anything you have in between, like a power strip or surge protector.... Question

Then too, some of these devices need time on first power-up to update their firmware. No idea if this is the case with yours, but one sometimes needs to let them sit for about ten minutes while they connect and update, at which time you should not attempt to call or even pick up the phone. Still just guessing here and throwing out ideas for what they're worth....

The green poer light will give you a clue, based on how it is blinking, per below:

Power 1 Blink (blink, pause, repeat) PAP2v2 is powering up
Power 2 Blinks (blink, blink, pause, repeat) PAP2v2 is obtaining an IP address
Power 3 Blinks (blink, blink, blink, pause, repeat PAP2v2 is obtaining configuration from Vonage
Power 4 Blinks (blink, blink, blink, blink, pause, repeat) PAP2v2 is registering with Vonage
Power Lights up red PAP2v2 has failed self-test or is malfunctioning

I thought he said the light eventually went out. Not sure now if I dreamed that or if he later removed that part....

It is in the title, but I doubt that it is turning off, though I am not totally familiar with the PAP2, ie it may turn off after a certain amount of time if it cannot get an IP address.

I assme his computer is working through the router, so Airtel is issuing some form of ip address, though I understand that airtel DSL provided modems usually have DHCP disabled (one can enable . . probably at 192.168.1.1)

Could be his router MAY need some ports opened for Vonage to work.

The number of flashes/blinks will point him/us in the right direction.

I wonder if this unit is one of those you can take with you and plug in anywhere. If so he can plug it directly into his modem, right? Or it sounds like he has a gateway, in which case the WAN line will plug straight in to his input port, I guess. If it worked that way then he obviously has issues with his router, as you speculated. I am speaking of him in the third person because it appears that he left the scene. Eek

Anyway, Hemant, you can go to Linksys and try their live chat thingy if nothing else works.

Or maybe a hard reset is in order? Not sure about this model either, but holding the reset button in for two minutes ought to do it.

Sorry for my absence. i'd gone to the linksys retailer to find out about the problem. They don't have this equipment available locally.

Apparently, they say the PAP2 box might have burnt out due to faulty power supply.

Box needs a 12V DC Supply and I was using a 12V AC and converting it to DC.

I have a few questions:

1. I havent plugged in the cat5 internet cable into the modem yet. I doubt if the box can therefore start registering with Vonage without internet connectivity.

2. If i turn the power on, The device should atleast switch on.

3. I then tried connecting the internet cable as well but still the same, device doesnt seem to work. It blinks numerous times and then stops blinking and the box switches itself off.

4. I dont connect my internet through the box. I have a wifi router from Airtel. it has 4 ports. I use 1 port to connect it to my laptop and another port to connect to the VTA box.

5. Can i buy a new Linksys PAP2 locally? Please let know.
