Many thanks Arthur

I contacted a local retailer and it might be available.

What he told me though was that PAP2 is no more avlbl in India and they have a PAP 2T which is also a Voip phone adaptor.

Would this work with Vonage?

Plz let know.

I think the T means it is two-line. Maybe ed can jump in here. I read something about it in that Linksys forum that is at that link I posted earlier. I forget. Been having a senior moment all morning. Frustrated

I doubt that it will work, as Vonage has special firmware and settings in their adpaters to work with the Vonage network. Vonage will not recognize this device as one of theirs.

I would guess the only thing you can do is have someone ship you a new Vonage adapter from the US. You will need Vonage to provision it as well after you hook it up using the interface on Vonage home page (Bought it at a store) and "add a Vonage retail device to my account" sub-menu.

The T means it has two phone ports instead of just one. You can plug a fax into Line 2 if you have that service. Newer model. Read the manual though. As someone is fond of pointing out on here, you need an RJ11 hookup with only two wires. Presumably that is the cord they supply you with... See the forum at the above link. The manual is here:
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1169671625776&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=2577643006B02&displaypage=nodata#versiondetail

At least this way you should get the proper power supply for the unit.

Am confused. So should I buy a PAP 2T?

About having someone buy it in US and send me as a replacement. i contacted them and they told me to buy one from India and it should be a breeze.

It seems that they have the model in stock that applies to the conditions/equipment in your country. See the forum comments here:
http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=VoIP_Adapters&thread.id=402&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
Worst case scenario you take it back to the store. I assume they will allow you to return it if it won't work. Maybe ask somebody at the store if you're leery?

Ok, looks like my guess about local conditions being the reason for the different model available in your area was the correct guess. heh heh
Aside from the codecs available the big difference seems to be in ringer voltage. If you were to use a PAP2 with one of your local phones you might give "my phone was ringing off the wall" a whole new meaning. Lol Eye Popping

Speaking of voltage, in neither case do they use 12 volts, so it's pretty safe to assume that whoever told you that you had creamed your adapter with your power supply was correct.
