I was told that I needed a splitter in order to get one of our phones to work. Does anyone know how to do this and how much these are? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

A simple phone splitter is a couple bucks tops. But I really can't answer the question as to how to use it since I have no idea what you are trying to do. One phone plugged directly into your box will work without a splitter. If you are trying to get more than one phone or use in other locations in the house then it could be necessary.

You'll have to give some more information as to what you are trying to do and then answering it can get more specific.

Ok, well i was told by Vonage support that I needed a splitter. My issue is that I have two phone bases; one base with an extra handset, these both work fine, and another base that is hooked to the fax machine upstairs in the office. Since the office phone is not hooked to the box, and is not a handset of the other base, I was told I need a splitter to be able for that phone to work. Hopefully, this was enough info since I'm not sure how else to describe it.

Oh man. They couldn't have been more vague for you could they.

Here's a type of splitter

That one is $2.49 at the store I work.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's gonna be as simple as you might hope. Essentially, they want you to run another cord to the upstairs phone. I suspect that running a long cord isn't exactly what you want.

To properly address your application, you really need to try to use some existing wire in the walls and the rooms of the house and while not overly complicated, it can be a little tricky. You'll find better help in the hard wiring section of the forums.

If I'm on the right track then one of the first questions is whether or not you have a landline and/or DSL for internet.

Oh boy...I don't like complicated.

We use cable for our internet connection. As far as landline goes, are you speaking of landline for phone usage? If yes, then yes, well, we did before moving to Vonage.

The guy on the phone said that if I was to buy a splitter and put one downstairs with the Vonage box and another one upstairs connected to the phone up there, then it would send a signal from the Vonage to the phone/fax upstairs. Make sense?

It sounds like you will need one of these:

It can be found here:

The plug will plug into the RJ11 socket in your Vonage device and you can plug in your RJ11 cabling into the sockets. It will probably take a LONG cable for the run upstairs if your Voip device is downstairs. It will be a good weekend project.

DM:

Do you have the cat 3 phone cabling in your home tied to your Vonage adapter??? The reason I am asking is because I have every one of my phone jacks are active to my Vonage adapter. Which means I can plug a phone into any wall jack and it works great. Let me know if you have any other questions. I will do what I can to help you get it done. Have a great evening.

Oh I have no idea. This is an older house so I'm not sure what is what. Is there a way to send the signal upstairs rather than run a cord upstairs; I don't think my dad is going to go for that at all.

Are you running any other phone lines besides Vonage? IOW, do you still have the a functioning landline or is Vonage the only phone in the house?

It is quite possible to have Vonage service used in other rooms in the house? We just need to gather some more information about your specific situation.

It's actually still functioning. I'm assuming that I need to call verizon and have them disconnect. Anyways, I am still able to make phone calls from the office phone, but it does not receive calls.
