1. Your location ---> Metro Atlanta ---> Gwinnett County, GA 2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc) --> Comcast was Adelphia 3. Upload and download speeds : My Results Download 4,982,504 bps Upload 365,880 bps QOS 98% RTT 27 ms MaxPause 31 ms
4. Modem make and model ----- > RCA Modem (Can't find the Model) type
5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie ---> PAP2 6. Setup of Network ie RCA Modem---->Netgear RangeMax NEXT Wireless Router Gigabit Editionr ---> Vonage Adapter (PAP2) -->NETGEAR GS108 --->PC 7. Issue you are experiencing:
Just out of the Blue the Vonage PAP2 adapter looses connectivity to the Netgear Router aka instead of the three green lights confirming connectivity I have the one green light is flashing which mean no connection. If you pick up the phone you get the voice message the the "Vontage adapter has lost connection to the host." This problem could happen once a week, but most of the time it happens two to three times within a 48 hour period before things calm down. Since I have to reboot the modem, router and pap2 it gets to be a real pain in the neck. I have read all kinds of different comments, but to this day have not found a correct fix for my situation. Is the problem Comcast, Netgear, Vonage???? The only thing that I can determine just based on what I can see is that the Router may flake out for some reason and the DHCP handed out IP between the PAP2 and the Router goes away and the PAP2 can't get its IP back. Or because of the issues posted on the different forums about Comcast and their wonderful Network shaping they do that it takes away the QOS from the PAP2. Which leads me to my only other question. I have tried to find a way to get my NetGear Router to allow me to give priority to my Vonage adapter. I have checked all kinds of forums and haven't found any way to make this happen. Any suggestions??? Sorry for the long post, but this issue has been going on for 6 months plus and Comcast and Netgear blame the other,Vonage just does not have an answer either. I really don't blame Vonage, I just want to fix the reboot issue. Thanks.

Your post shows only 1 PC in the network, thought the 10 port switch and wireless router says possibly different.
Setup of Network ie RCA Modem---->Netgear RangeMax NEXT Wireless Router Gigabit Editionr ---> Vonage Adapter (PAP2) -->NETGEAR GS108 --->PC
I would try taking the Netgear RangeMax out of the mix and connecting the PAP to the modem and the computer. Looks like the PAP2 does not assign IP's via a DHCP see ( http://ui.linksys.com/files/PAP2/User-Basic.htm ) This will help you determine if the netgear router is not operating correctly.
BTW, a very handy location ( http://ui.linksys.com/files/ ) to see what the set up for linksys equipment is. |

I don't believe that the netgear has any options for QOS, or the ability to set priority for the pap2.
I think there are a couple possibilities here as you seem to have it a more linear setup as apposed to branches. 1 thing you could do is try the PAP2 right after the modem before the rangemax router. The QOS of the PAP2 would give you priority for voice.
You may have more devices than you really need, but I'm not sure how may pc's are wired into the switche.
Another try would be placing the PAP2 and GS108 parallel of the router and seeing if any "QOS" would really be needed. |

Clarification:
The Netgear DS108 Gig Switch is connected to one of the 4 gig ports on the back of the Netgear N Series Router to support our home Windows 2003 Domain. 1 Domain Controller and 5 PCs and 2 laptops which are normally connected via the G54 Wireless part of the router. Also, the PAP2 adapter is connected directly to the Router on one of the other 4 gig ports on the back of the same router so the switch and the pap2 are running side by side. Appreciate the info provided so far guys, but since the PAP2 dropping is so random not sure I can afford time wise to keep the Domain of the internet for too long. May try it this weekend when every one is out of the house. Thanks again.

This issue is resolved. The NetGear N Series has gone Tago Uniform. I have replaced it with a Linksys WRT350N. It only took an hour to get the router up and customized and Voip back online. Also, having the 4 year extended warrany has just saved me about $167 in long term costs so my net costs for replacing my router was $25. |
