I have trouble with my Vonage service. I have what I would call a open carrier or phone in use signal on a frequent basis. I have tried several things including purchasing the newest and latest Vonage box. I would like to continue with Vonage but I cannot have this service interruption.

You have great speeds, but your QOS (quality of service) is terrible. I see that your jitter score (server to you) is 8.3 ms. This is probably where the QOS problem lies.

Are these consistent and have you checked http://myspeed.visualware.com/ to confirm (different sites have different results).

If they confirm, I would contact your ISP about this.

His jitter score of 8.3ms is not the cause of his low QoS score. His low QoS score is probably due to the variance in his download speed when the download speed portion of the test is being run. Try running the forum Voip speed test again and notice if your download speed stays consistent or if it varies to a great degree. If your speed starts at 8Mbps but finishes at 5Mbps your QoS score will be low. On the other hand if your speed starts at 14.5 Mbps and stays consistently in the 14 Mbps range your QoS score will be high.

Are you using your home wiring with your Vonage device? You should contact Vonage tech support about the issue you're having in regards to your statement about having a phone in use signal on a frequent basis if the phone is not actually in use. Your ISP is not at fault from the results you have posted.

I just completed the test again and the numbers were very similar. I am using my home phone wiring for the Vonage service. The way I can tell I am having a Vonage problem is my phone base will flash a light that normally indicates the phone is in use. When I pick up the phone I hear a constant sound similar to a busy signal only faster.

When you take your phone off the hook are you hearing a stutter tone and then the regular dial tone? The stutter tone would indicate to you that you have a voicemail waiting.

Try connecting a corded phone directly to your Vonage adapter to see if that removes the constant sound you're hearing. If it does, your issue may be with your home wiring.

It is not the tone for voice mail, it is something other than that. It sounds like the phone is not properly hung up.

For testing purposes, temporarily disconnect from your home wiring and plug a corded phone directly to your Vonage adapter to see if that corrects the issue you're having.

Unfortunately or fortunately the issue I am discussing is not currently happening. It is sporadic and it either goes away on its own or I reboot the modem and Vonage box.

When you connected the Vonage device to your home wiring did you disconnect the old phone company's wiring from your Dmark? The dmark is either a box on the outside of you house or a rail or box in your basement where the line coming in form the outside connects with your phone jack wiring.
