looks like the toshibas have packet loss problems in general..
but you will only notice it if your cable company has noise on there lines or is sweeping them on a regular basis to check for line quality..
untill that happens you pcx may be ok..
this is just a relaying of info...
I guess newer modems reject the noise better..
so unless you have problems just leave it ..but when it starts ..swap it out as your first test save yourself some heart ache...

PostPosted: Tue Nov 29, 2005 8:36 pm    Post subject: Echo Problems Reply with quote Back to top

Hello! I tested my broadband connection at www.testyourvoip.com, and I got a 4.1 both ways.

I am having terrible echo problems. Almost every other phone call I have this horrible echo that I usually have with my cheap-o cell phone. I am using a cordless phone, but also tried a regular corded telephone too and still had the same problem.

Does anyone have any ideas? I bought a good digital cordless telephone (a Uniden) just the other day hoping that a good phone will fix it, but it didn't.

I am using a wireless router, but was told to install the Vonage phone adapter BEFORE I install the wireless router in order to give Vonage priority over the internet.

Thanks!!!!

You've entered your question on the end of a thread that's been over for nearly a year. You'll probably get more help if you start a new one.

That said, a lot of the echo problems reported in the last three months were related to RTP300s and their firmware. Tell us all about your equipment- model numbers and so forth- and your up and download speeds. Details from a test call at www.testyourvoip.com can also help. In this case, the firmware version on your adapter would also be helpful.

Hello!!

Actually, I just called Vonage and they fixed up the problem for me in a few minutes!!!

All they said the problem was.... is that the microphone in my phone was too strong for the Voip. They lowered the output from their end, and it's all good now!

Thanks again.

The problem is not with you, it's with Vonage.

I had Packet 8 as my Voip provider, it never had a problem.
I switched to Vonage, and the problem was worse than your nightmare.
Then I switched back to Packet8, and the problem is gone again.

The same regular phone that worked (without echo) on SBC, and Packet8, but got echo on Vonage, it's Vonage that is the problem.

They should have worked on echo cancelation. Anyone is in the sound transfer business knows the echo issue, except Vonage, that has to be addressed, and not by trying out different phone sets.

I agree. It does seem to be a Vonage problem; however... Vonage explains this issue by saying that their audio output level is much higher than other companies, and that can be resolved with a simple phone call.

If anyone is having these echo probmes... just call up and have them lower your audio output volume.
