Does a phone equipped with Talking Caller ID capability work well in this regard with Vonage? |

Check this out..... www.talkingcallerid.com
Now, this is not a Vonage promoted, sanctioned, or supported software, but it looks like the person(s) who developed it, tested it with various Voip services & is promoting it as a viable addition to a Voip system. |

Yes. We have a Panasonic phone with Talking Caller ID and as long as Vonage passes the name, the Panasonic phone will attempt to speak the caller's name. |

Does the Panasonic phone succeed in speaking the caller's name properly (enough to recognize it easily)? I'm particularly interested in your comment because I'm planning on getting a Panasonic phone with Talking Caller ID. Which model do you have? You also say:"as long as Vonage passes the name". I'm not clear on what you mean? Could you be more specific? Are there instances when Vonage doesn't pass the name?
Altogether are you pleased with your Panasonic phone regarding especially voice quality?
Many thanks. |

We've had a Panasonic KX-TG2258 for over a year. It works OK... and does its best to pronounce names. Most are recognizable... some are not.
Some of the Caller-ID names that came through on our old landline carrier do not seem to come through with Vonage. The number comes through fine, but name says unavailable, or unknown. In reality thoguht, there aren't many (my office is one), and most of the names do come through.
The phone's quality is OK, but if I were to do it again, I'd probably look for a 5.8Ghz phone because I also run a wireless 802.11b network in my home, which also runs over the 2.4Ghz band. Occassionaly (although not as often now that I've switched from Netgear to Linksys) I have problems when I'm communicating wirelessly and the phone rings (drops my network connection).
Good luck! |
