I have an Actiontec MI424WR supplied by my ISP and it's a honey. My Vonage D-Link VTA handles only phoning and is plugged into one of the Ethernet ports on the Actiontec, while said Actiontec handles all the rest (i.e. connecting with and communicating over the 'net for the Voip device and computing).

While that particular model is designed for fiber solutions, you should find something in that group that will do the job for you. |

I suggest you research carefully
We bought a Dlink DIR 655
works great for everything but Vonage and no where can you find proper configuration advice for this router.
As it is right now we will be cancelling Vonage and going with Comcast instead. Why ? The router works fantastically for all other home network needs. But it just will not work properly with Vonage. |

My WRTP54G just died, too.
Actually, it's kind of alive, but keeps rebooting at times, causing me to lose internet connections and dial tone.
I just got off the phone with Vonage and we went through all the troubleshooting steps. The conclusion is my device is dying. It's out of warranty (>1 yr.), so they won't replace for free but have offered me a $40 credit if I buy a device at retail and call to activate it.
So, I too would appreciate some solid advice on a new Vonage device to buy, preferably one like the WRTP54G (wireless, multiple ethernet ports, two phone ports).
What say y'all? |

I had a WRTp54G that worked from February 2006 until August of 2007. I have a post in this forum regarding the problems I am having between Comcast, my Netgear N Series Router and my replacement Vonage P2P2 adapter. I strongly feel that my issue is between Comcast srewing around with the network called Network Shapiing so it causes my Vonage adapter to drop and they are trying to push me toward their Comcast Digital Voice. I can not prove anything yet, but I NEVER had this problem before Comcast took over Adelphia. How does that relate to your router issue??? Knowing what I know today you and others should either get WRTP54G or split up the router and Voip duties on to Linksys devices and get an extended warranty on the devices. I bought my Netgear N Router and PAP2 adapter from Circuity City so that I could put a 4 year warranty on them for next to nothing and if I get to a point where either of these two devices go nuts or dead I still have options. My dissatifaction with Netgear since I have been using their router is the "customer no service" and what I just got confirmation on that Netgear routers do not have a setting for QOS to give priority to Voip traffic. Just an thought, but I have been there and done that so best wishes for a better purchasing experience. I do give Circuity City credit for one thing they have tried to share what they know from their FireDog group about the Netgear and Linksys equipment. So it was additional information to chew on. |

3 weeks ago I replaced my Belkin wireless router (which died) with a Vonage D-Link VWR. I was happy to find it on the shelf at Best Buy. It's an integrated phone adapter (2 phone ports) and wireless router. It allowed me to combine 3 devices into one (we have 2 phone lines).
Hindsight is tough - I should have researched the device before picking it up. At least once a day it seizes up and requires rebooting. What's worse - it loses ALL customized settings everytime you reboot it! My secured wireless becomes open and publicly available every time the network goes out! I live in NYC and bandwidth is happily consumed freely by neighbors if you take no precautions. I paid $100 for this awful piece of hardware - and I find now that although I can find forum threads going back to 2006 complaining about my exact issues, and promises of firmware update releases going back to 2005, there is in fact no firmware update yet and the problem certainly isn't fixed. I will maybe ultimately end up spending more money on a different hardware device as I can't keep this daily fiddling up! Re-evaluating if Vonage will remain the provider in fact. I like them and also suspect some cable company meddling being responsible for voice quality dips at times. But bad hardware is bad hardware. The fact that they sell this router with multiple known issues at substantial cost is very troubling.
My advice would be check out the word on the street about whatever hardware you are thinking about before you get it. |

My WRT54GS has performed flawlessly for the past two years or so and I will, probably replace it with the same when it goes bad. The Netgear Wireless routers seem to be very reliable also and I have installed several in various APs and, after several years, they are still in operation.
In my personal opinion, separation of the router and Voip device is best. Integrated Voip Devices and routers (all-in-one devices) seem to have a lot of firmware difficulties. My WRT54GS and D-Link VTA have always performed flawlessly, even when I added a second line. |

I had the same question on which wireless router would be best to buy for my Voip and cable internet access. I have hard wired now but was thinking of going wireless. I read some reviews on the WRTP54G linksys router at amazon. I was surprised at all the unfavorable reviews. Is a delay when answering a phone on a wireless router normal or are your setups just fine? |

Thanks for all the information everyone has given me.I bought a new Vonage VMR wireless router. Setup took about a hour with Vonage customer service everything seems to be working fine for now. Vonage will gave you a $40.00 credit on the purchase of a new router you just have to ask and best buy gave me a $70.00 rebate (hopefully) total cost was $107.00 taxed included I would like to add that my WRT54GS had performed flawlessly for the past two years it just got dropped so it stopped working I tried to buy it again but I could not find one in stock anywhere and I bought the last Vonage vmr that the best buy store had in stock and they told me that before they got there last order in that they had been out of stock for about 2 months |
