Hi guys, I really need some help.
I have a cordless phone Uniden 900mhz, I directly connected it to my wireless Voip router but it did not work at all, can't call out or receive any incoming calls. only the regular corded phone works.
The cordless phone is tested on landlines and works fine.

Please help.
thanks

Was the cordless phone tested after it failed to work with TA ? It could be a weak battery or bad RJ11 cable.

As far as I know, there is really no difference between a corded orcordless phone in that way they connect to TA or PSTN and there are FCC regulations I think that control the behavior. I have no clue as to how the TA is able to figure out what kind of phone is attached. Other experts on forum may have better suggestions.

I agree. The situation is very strange. I'd start by checking the cord and making sure that it's plugged into the correct phone port on the WRTP54G.

Zergun, you say you can't make or receive calls. Do you get a dial tone? Is the phone light on the WRTP54G lit? Does it flash when you turn on the cordless phone? Does your internet continue to work when you try to place a call? If you try to call in, what indication do you get?

If you have a real long phone cord, place the base unit as far away from the WRTP54G as you can and try again.

I am having the same problem. The corded phone works, but the cordless (actually 2 different ones) will not connect for incoming or outgoing calls. There is a dial tone and I can dial out, but then it is only dead air. The phone will ring for an incoming call, but when I answer it is dead air and the person calling keeps hearing the phone ring. When I hang up, the person calling me is disconnected as well as if I answered and hung up. My wife and I have tested this several times using our cell phones, a corded phone (which always works), and two different cordless phones. I went through all the steps on the Vonage help page and even set a static IP address which actually seemed to help as I could make and receive calls successfully on the cordless phone. Several hours later; however, I was having the same problem with the cordless, but could plug in the corded phone and everything was fine.

I've had Vonage for 2 years now and this is a very recent problem (last month or so).

My apologies if you already know this, but just in case....

You are plugging both phones (one at a time) into the same PHONE port on the WRTP54G, right? PHONE1 and PHONE2 are for two separate lines.

You are also using the same patch cable for all phones you are testing, correct? While rare, phone patch cables do occasionally break, and the break is rarely visible.

I am using phone1 each time. I plug in the corded phone, everything works as it should. I unplug the phone cable from the back of the corded phone and plug it directly into the base of the cordless phone. I get a dial tone and can dial, but then nothing. If I receive an incoming call on the cordless phone, after I answer there is nothing on my end and the caller continues to hear the phone ringing until I hang up at which point the call is stopped.

In my search for similar problems, I've notice some people have been experiencing this since 2005 so it does not appear to be a new problem or that rare of one either. As far as I can tell though, there is no definitive resolution to the problem.

My first instinct is interference, but with a 900Mhz phone, the obvious question is "what with"?

However, it may be worthwhile to turn off the wireless access point in the WRTP54G, just for giggles.

Also, on an older phone, maybe the phone is sensitive to the polarity of the connection. This is rather unlikely, but you may see if you can find a patch cable that reverses the polarity of the connection (or doesn't if your current one does, which most do).

Also, what firmware is your WRTP54G running? I know the older firmwares had some "interesting" problems with various devices, call waiting, etc. Maybe some signal from the old 900MHz cordless is triggering call waiting or some bizarro thing like that.

the other possibility is that the cordless phone may not be sending a strong enough "off hook" signal to the Vonage line. Can you put both the corded phone and the cordless on a splitter, then pick up the corded phone and then the cordless one? That's to test if the cordless works once the line has been taken "off hook".
