Jitter can be different and is typically different. Access is not symmetric and nor is traffic. You typically have much more downstream bandwidth than upstream. Other then Voip most other traffic (web/email/utube/itunes etc..) is asymmetric.

I think we should not confuse signal level with jitter. you should simply run a publicly available speed test and ask them to fix the problem seen in speed test ( mainly jitter). Vonage or not, you should expect some QoS as subscriber as you may have other applications that may require some QoS. The speed tests is the only data that you should use to make your case and verify their claims.

512K advertised speed is a little better than satellite but still in the yellow on the ramp in the speed test. You don't get into the green until you hit about 1 Mbps. Then too that speed tester understates one's speed anyway. It reads about 2/3 my down speed and about 1/2 my up speed.

Any way to get better up speed out of them? Like opting for a higher-rate plan?

i have said this same issue for a few months now. i had Vonage adjust my "jitter buffer" (thats what i asked them to do... not sure if they actually did it), i have purchased a new modem (moto surfboard) and a new linksys wireless N router--the latest N router they have now. once i replaced the modem things seemed OK but then the issue came back. basically people can not hear me but i hear them... and i can tell its a delay because when i talk its about 4 seconds or so before they hear me. yesterday i called someone and all was fine. they put me on hold and when they came back that could not hear me. when they hung up the phone, i heard my voice echoing on the phone. resetting the pap2 TA will make things ok but only for a while. again when folks call in all is pretty good. im not at home to run any new tests but i can later....

Where is that smiley where it's pulling its hair out??? I looked all over Eye Popping and can't find it. Must have been a different forum. Embarassed

Now here is my frustration here. I came here to learn and now I am here trying to get other people's systems to perform instead.

Great. I hope to leave more on this planet than I take away. But this Voip IS NOT THAT HARD TO MAKE WORK Exclamation Why are people having so much trouble? Is it Vonage that goes on TV and meets peeples on the street who says "yeah it is so dependable I call my hija (daughter) all the time", but never explains that you gotta have:

a broadband connection that is reliable and is performing at advertised speeds

at least about 2 megs of up and down speed

a modem, a router, and btw not one of our devices that are designed to mine the el cheapo market and be AIO, but that can hack it and are in good working order

a decent Voip adapter that does not pretend to be anything but a place to plug in your phones
