Hello -

I'm wondering if anybody can post details on how exactly to get a SIP IP phone to work with the SIP credentials from a Vonage softphone.

I have my softphone working on my network, both with the vonage software and with xlite, but the settings on my polycom phone are so different I'm not sure what to enter where. I enter the server, the proxy, my credentials, and what I assumed to be the basic sip info, but it's not registering.

Specifically I have settings for display name, address, label, num line keys, calls per line, transport (is it udp only?) expires, register, retry time out, retry max count, line seize time out, etc.

I probably should have investigated if the polycom sip phones would work with vonage before buying. any help would be appreciated!

Transport: DNSnaptr UDPonly TCPpreferred TCPonly TLS ?
Expires: ?
Register: ?

Line Seize Time Out: ?

I finally got the Polycom Soundpoint IP560 working with my Vonage softphone account. It took quite some googling, as Polycom phones, it turns out, don't play well with NAT (they expect a local pbx system). In case anybody is interested in the config:

Polycom Network config
1. First setup the polycom with a fixed IP (don't use DHCP), eg 192.168.0.40, subnet, gateway, and dns.
2. In the web interface of the polycom, select "Network - NAT" and enter the external IP address of your router. Under "signaling port" and "media start port" I entered 12000 and 13000 (not sure if this is signficant, but it works and I don't want to mess with it). Leave RTP and everything else at the defaults
3. Under the SIP config onthe web interface, set both outbound proxy and server 1 address as "sphone.vopr.vonage.net"
4. outbound proxy port: 5061, UDP only
5. Server 1 port: 5060, UPD only
Expires: 3600
Register: 1
Retry timeout: 0
Retry max count: 0
Line seize timeout: 30
6. Under local settings, "local SIP Port" is 5060, calls per line key is 1, everything else default.

Under "Lines" on the polycom web interface, enter:
Display Name: callerid-yourchoice
Address: 15555551212 (this it the full softphone # including 1!)
Auth User ID: 15555551212 (has to be the same as above!)
Auth Pwd: password from your softphone account
Label: what you want to show on the polycom phone (like extension number)
Third Party Name: I entered my company name
Nu Line keys: 1
Calls per line: 1
Server address: sphone.vopr.vonage.net
port: 5060
Transport: DNSnaptr
register: 3600

On your router
Configure it to forward ports 5060 and 5061 to the fixed IP of the polycom phone. Also forward ports 10000 and 20000 to the polycom. Keep in mind this works with only one phone so far, i haven't checked to see if it works with multiple phones or softphone lines on a network.

Hope this helps somebody. I love the polycom phone btw, lots of features, solid build, and great sound quality.

Astrocramp - thank you for posting this. It has helped me solve a problem with getting a Polycom to stay registered on a Trixbox server when used at an executive's home.

The UDP only option under the SIP server settings is what solved it for me.

I hope other people find this useful as well.

Thanks!
