ISP: Comcast
Upload/download speeds: 2.95 Mbps
Modem: Linksys BEFCMU10
Adapter: Linksys RT31P2

Issue: 3 year customer with very few problems until mid 2007. Periodically when we pick up the phone to make a call there is no dial tone. We have determined (10% of calls) that when we complete a call (hang up) the line isn’t going off hook. We have Vonage connected to the home wiring and make calls from Panasonic 5.8 wireless phones. To fix the problem we go to an AT&T (hard wired two line 992, have 2 Vonage numbers) phone and press each line button, as if we were going to make a call, we get a dial tone and then can use the Panasonic phones again. I have no other problems with Vonage, very stable, good quality calls.

Your packet loss, server to you, is very bad- 100%. However, I confess that I don't see how that has much to do with the problem you're discussing. Nevertheless, you should try plugging a computer directly into your modem and repeating the test. Something odd is going on.

Meanwhile, does your disconnect problem still occur if you plug the 5.8 GHz cordless directly into the Vonage box and disconnect home wiring?

The problem happens infrequently (4 - 6 times per week) so I have problems reproducing. I replaced an older Panasonic wireless phone set with what I have now thinking that may have been the issue. I have eliminated that as the issue. I ran the test from a laptop connecting to my home network via wireless. I'll take the wireless out of the equation and see what that produces for numbers.

OK, standing by on the test. Meanwhile, since the problem occurs infrequently, I think I'd plug the cordless phone directly into the RT31P2 for a week or so, and see if the problem occurs in that configuration.

I have never had any significant quality problems. Interestingly I disconnected the AT&T phone and haven't seen the problem since. My Panasonic wireless base station is still connecting through my house wiring. I intend to run this way for another few days then reconnect the AT&T phone and see if the problem returns.
