Post subject: no dial tone for PC fax/modem
If I connect line the phone port to a regular phone, I get dial tone and can make/receive calls. If I connect the phone port to my PC's Fax/modem, I get no dial tone and cannot send or receive anything.

That's because the
Vonage
Adapter can not be used with a PC fax modem. Your PC fax modem is meant to be use only with a regular POTS line. Your
Vonage
Voice Adapter produces a dial tone, as does your PC fax modem. U can't have two (2) dial tone producing devices working on the same line at the same time.

What kind of nonsense is that! A PC Fax modem detects a dial tone but does not produce a dial tone of its own. It does produce a handshake tone once the receiving end has picked up, but it does NOT produce a dial tone.
Is this really a "Vonage Technical Representative" - ?
IF so, then I may reconsider using
Vonage

What is Scary is that you are defending this kind of ignorance!. I usually keep to myself, but I am in a technical field and know that the statement is nonsense. If speaking the truth is arrogance then so be it.
If you can prove otherwise (that my statement is untrue) then do so please.
I would have said nothing if the post had not been made by a supposed "Tier 2" Tech Support Representative of
Vonage
. I came looking for help on other items.
I like your outrageous arrogance that felt it necessary to respond to it!

Sooo... Do any of you have an answer as to how I can use my PCTEL 2304wt v9x MDC modem over a
Vonage
line for fax? I'm getting no dial tone, and the fax fails in every attempt. I tried setting my modem down to 9600bps (from 115200) and I've turned off dial control (wait for dial tone before dialing). Lastly, I tried the *99 bandwidth saver, although according to
Vonage
, that isn't necessary because I'm using the RTP300 connected to my notebook fax modem.
Any ideas? I simply want to make incoming and outgoing faxes via my Pc (and not a dedicated fax) via
Vonage
but so far, no luck.

Dan,
First of all, I'm not trying to prolong nor rekindle the debate/discussion that was going on here in this thread. I won't even refer to the subject matter discussed.
I actually thought that the posts in this thread were remarkably civil, considering the obvious significant differences of opinion.
There did not appear to be any "...Claims of action, flames, and calls to action against any company or person...". Nor were there any "Posts that appear to support or promote the violation of any part of the
Vonage
TOS...". Additionally, I saw no evidence of name-calling, offensive or vulgar language, ethnic, racial, gender-based, or faith/religion slurs or any of the other "No-no's" that are commonly disallowed in user or support forums across the Internet.
In other words, I didn't see any Forum Rules infractions in the posts of this thread, with the single exception that one long-time user posted an "off-topic" message that appeared to have no purpose relevant to the topic at hand. It appeared to be posted simply to to berate another shorter-term member because of a response to yet a different poster - one who claims to be a
Vonage
Technical Representative, offering potentially "technical" advice - because they resented, or disliked the "tone" of the other poster's response. I thought the "newbie's" comment was actually on-topic and relevant - regardless whether it was worded in a polite fashion or not. It cetainly did not appear (to me, at least) to be an attacking or "flame" post.
Actually, I 'm not certain which post you feel contained the referenced "personal comments", with the exception of the off-topic remark.
All other posts were certainly on-topic and reflected the subject presented in the thread's title.
What exactly are the rules that govern such posts?
I ask only because I moderate over a dozen technical forums online, and administer two others of my own. I am curious as to why you felt the need to issue your ersatz "Cease and desist" order?
Of course you may be aware of some previous discord among the members involved, or relationship issues of which I am unaware.
Or it may just be "Because you can"! (I won't argue that point!)
As far as I can tell, the only thing that was ultimately accomplished was that poor user
hakujin
is still without an answer to his question. And it would appear that he will remain that way, as methinks that no one is willing to try again - at least not in this thread!
Thanks for, hopefully, any advice you can offer!

The OP was randyboy (not me) but yes, I'd love to know a solution for this as this problem is bugging me.

Oh, that was slow sloppy of me, hakujin!
I apologize for that, to both you and randyboy. I got lazy and only looked at that last post, which also asked about the original issue.
Nice pick-up, and sorry for my "Oops"
