Hello. I can't seem to configure the router using a browser. I isolated the router and connected it from Port 1 to the back of my laptop. So nothing was plugged in except a power cable and the one wire that goes to my laptop

I enter in firefox, 192.168.15.1 - nothing happens
I restart the laptop and try again - nothing happens
I disconnect the power to router for 30 minutes and tried - nothing
I pressed the reset button for 30 seconds and restarted laptop - nothing

Is this router broken? If I plug it in to the phone line, the phone works. I just can't seem to get the username and password box to pop up in my browser. I need to log in to the router so I can turn off the wireless broadcasting and also disable DHCP.

Any ideas?

Hi Elte,
What ip address is your nic set to? Is it is the same range 192.168.15.xx? If not try manually assign an ip like 192.168.15.10 to your nic and see if that allows you to bring up the web interface. Also (I am not familiar with the device you have) but make sure you are plugged in the right port on the back of your device. My motorola device has two jacks in the back one for internet and one for ethernet. My guess is you would want to be in the ethernet jack if available. But check your ip first to make sure you are in the same range as the router. Write back if this doesn't work and maybe someone else may have an idea.

sorry i forgot to elaborate.
i'm trying to add this wireless router to an existing wired network. in order to add the wireless router, i need to turn off DHCP so it wont give out Ips.

The router has DHCP turned on by default, so even if i manually assign an ip, wouldnt the router reject it?

not a problem. The router would not reject it at all. you can run both dhcp and manual on the same network and most routers will come set to default 192.168.15.1 or 192.168.1.1 (the Vonage devices i have seen use the 192.168.15.1 address and usually linksys will do 192.168.1.1). What sounds like maybe happening is whatever device assigned your pc an ip may not be in the same range. I would manually assign the ip then hook directly into your wireless router and see what you get there. you should be ok from there as to disabling the dhcp.

It's not clear which port you are referring to as Port 1.
When you connect the laptop to router, it should give your laptop an IP address. If you don't get that then either you plugged into wrong port or you may have problem with cable.
