PostPosted: Tue Feb 19, 2008 3:02 am    Post subject: V-Portal Hang-up Issue Reply with quote Back to top

Has anybody tested out the V-Portal adapter? I am having an issue where my V-Portal does not hang up outgoing calls. If I place a call and hang up before the person answers, their phone will ring around 9 times before it stops.

The V-Portal seems to recognize that I hung up because it does not display the outgoing phone number on the display once the phone is hung up, but it does continue to ring on the other end. I have tried this with my 5.8Ghz Panasonic phone and just an old corded Sony phone. No house wiring, everything plugged directly into the V-Portal.

Vonage support said I needed a firmware upgrade. I told them the firmware version (three times) and then they said I had the latest version and that my adapter must be defective.

I asked if they could adjust the CPC duration/delay but they would not even respond to that.

I am really hoping to get this resolved. I am still in my 30-day trial period and am hoping to resolve this before the end of it, otherwise I am probably going to be forced to cancel. Does anybody have any suggestions on getting support that will actually help?

Thank you.

Hi Alias,

I've been using the V-Portal for about 3 weeks now (replacing a Linksys PAP2) and I never experienced anything like you just described.

Unfortunately, on the top of my head, I have no obvious explanation or solution for you. It really could be a defective unit.

I've been reading V-Portal related forums in the last 2 weeks and I don't recall having read something similar neither.

I hope you can fix this issue.

Thank you for the reply. After working with support more they are going to send a replacement V-Portal adapter. I do not know if it will fix the issue...but I guess it is worth a shot.

Thank you again.

Alias,

I can now confirm your problem. I have the exact same issue.
If I call my landline using my Vonage account and hang-up before answering, the land line keeps ringing several time (an abnormal amount of time).

It really seems to be an issue with the V-Portal. I'll try my old PAP2 to confirm. More to come...

Hi Alias,

It is a V-Portal issue.

I moved my number to both my PAP2 and my V-Phone and tried the same scenario: call my land line and hang up after one or two ring. With the other adapters, the line stops ringing after one or two more rings.

When I transfer the number back to the V-Portal and try the same test again, the line keeps ringing an abnormal amount of time (around nine rings).

It is clear that this is a V-Portal firmware issue.
Anyone from Vonage reading this?

Alias,

I also posted information about this problem in a forum where someone from Vonage support is active.

You can have a look here:
https://forums.vonage.com/showthread.php?t=620&page=2

If you have a look at this thread, you'll also see that they are also aware now of the IP lease problem. A fix is under way.

I hope they'll fix the ring issue at the same time.

Thank you again for the reply.

After my replacement V-Portal showed up and once again did not correct the issue...support e-mailed me the following information...

"After further review it appears that this is an issue that we are aware
of that may be related to the current firmware that is running on that
telephone adapter.

A fix has been tentatively scheduled to be implemented on March 1st. "

So...hopefully they are looking at it.

Thanks again.

Alias,

I think Vonage did fix the hang-up problem with the V-Portal. As of yesterday, I called my land line to verify the "target fix date" of March 1st and it seems that the problem is actually fixed.

Now, the phone rings between 1 and 3 times after I hang-up on the Vonage side. I think this is a "normal" behavior.

Since the fix was on their servers, I assume it will also fix your issue. Let me know.
