I recently canceled my service with Vonage and moved to a new number and new carrier. About a week after spinning up my new service I called Vonage Customer Service about a refund I was expecting. When I called (from my new number) I didn't block my caller-ID (never occured to me that I should). Anyway a few days later I start getting calls from 732-907-2112. Caller hangs up (automated) and when I "*69" I get a sales pitch from Vonage (recorded).
A few others have reported similar issues here: http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-732-907-2112
Any credence to this claim that Vonage is telemarketing in this manner? Who ever is doing it hangs up when the call is answered. You only get the sales pitch when you call into the number. They might be getting around the "no-call" legislation this way since they only market to "incoming" calls.

If you are a recent customer, Vonage does not need to get around the do not call listing:
"A telemarketer or seller may call a consumer with whom it has an established business relationship for up to 18 months after the consumer's last purchase, delivery, or payment - even if the consumer's number is on the National Do Not Call Registry. In addition, a company may call a consumer for up to three months after the consumer makes an inquiry or submits an application to the company. And if a consumer has given a company written permission, the company may call even if the consumer's number is on the National Do Not Call Registry. "
Same knd of thing that the politicians and charitable organizations get by with:
"The National Do Not Call Registry does not limit calls by political organizations, charities, or telephone surveyors."
Wait till this fall, yor phone will ring off the hook with Obama or Hilliary or McCain. |
