Post subject: WRTP54G rebooting every couple mins, any recommendations?
Hi,
I have a WRTP54G that is a couple years old. It's running 1.00.62, and for the most part, has been working well. (they tried to upgrade me to 5.x a few months ago, and I got them to put back 1.00.62).
As of last night, it reboots every few minutes.
Vonage
phone provisioning never really works.
I've tried the following things:
(1) Holding down the reset button for a minute.
(2) disabling wireless
(3) using a different AC adapter (had one from a different linksys router)
Nothing works --- it still reboots every couple of minutes. Stays on 1.00.62 according to 192.168.15.1, so I don't think it's trying to upgrade to anything (but I could be wrong)
Any ideas? If it's not really broke, I'm up for continuing to troubleshoot.
On the other hand, assuming it's broke, what h/w combination do people tend to use nowadays? I'm thinking of a new wireless router that supports the rangeboost and other new fancy features, so it seems like decoupling
Vonage
from the wireless router might be a good idea anyway, so that I'm not bound by 'combo units' every time I want to add a new wireless router every year or so. What hardware combination do people recommmend nowadays? A standalone
Vonage
adapter? Can I purchase any of these from the local electronics giants (best buy, etc)?
Thanks for any advice...

Post subject: Router keeps rebooting
I am having the exact same problem you have but I lost my phone also. The router seems to be rebooting every 20 sec or so. I gave up and unplugged it.

Post subject: WRTP54G2 resets here too
I thought that it was just mine that was acting up. However, I came home from work to find my router completely reset.
Even after I re-input all the necessary settings, it's refusing to provision the phone line, and it seems to reset very frequently.

Post subject: Re: Router keeps rebooting
Same here. Same router. Same problem. Started last night or this morning (not sure). Same firmware (.62). When I tried to login to the Router (192.168.15.1), it had mystically been restored to the factory settings (so my custom login no longer worked, the Router name had been reset to 'linksys', the WEP had been reset,
Vonage
didn't work, etc., etc.). The linksys "standard", admin/admin worked to get me logged in, so it had clearly been "reset"
I called Linksys to have them troubleshoot. $32.95 later and they "walked" me through the process I could have done myself (i.e. re-set the login to my custom login, renamed the router to what I had it, re-established WEP, etc. etc.). But after that,
Vonage
still didn't work and although I had an internet connection (both wired and wireless) kept dropping every 30 seconds to 2 minutes or so.
The advice? Call
Vonage
to have them re-establish the
Vonage
"stuff" and upgrade the firmware....aaaaarrrrrggggghhhh....
...on hold now with
Vonage
(your estimated wait time is at least 15 minutes)...
...came here to see if others were having this same problem today and whether any resolutions had been reached...
...judging by this post (and the length of time I've been on hold -- 20 minutes now), I would say the answer is "yes"...
...the question is how to fix it...
...I'll post the resolution once I get one from Vonage...

Post subject: Vonage's "Response" as of 2/14 at 8:00PM
UNBELIEVABLY, the tech support guy I'm talking to right now is telling me (a) they know about the problem, (b) they know what happened, (c) there's nothing they can do whilst "the engineers figure it out"; (d) they can't push a firmware update to me; (e) they can't turn on the
Vonage
service...
...most interestingly he told me that it's not that he's "not allowed" to do this while the "engineers figure it out", but that the system to do it isn't working.
So, basically, he told me I'm gonna have to deal with a sketchy router connection and no phone service more or less indefinitely until they get it "fixed".
This has the makings of a serious, serious, serious problem. BTW, anyone else notice it Valentine's Day?
Many, many years with
Vonage
and never had a problem even remotely close to this.

Having the same problem with the same exact router. Thank you, Mvdyk03, for doing the leg-work and making the calls. I'll be monitoring this forum for added info.

Yeah, I'll let you know what happens. The Tech Support Guy said he'd call me back when he can push a firmware update. Incidentally, your share of my $32.95 for the uselless call to out-of-warranty Linksys tech support so they could tell me nothing new is, by my estimation (assuming 200,000 users with that router), $00.00016475. Feel free to mail it to me at your earliest convenience.
I'll keep you updated.

I have the same issue started this am. I'm done with this POS router. Went out and bought a new netgear router tonight
On hold with
Vonage
now hopfully I can convince them to ship me a new phone adapter (non-router type) that will sit behind the new netgear and service the phone

Post subject: Same Problem Here
I am on the phone with
Vonage
now after a 30 min hold. I mentioned the issue and he seems unaware of it. He just got back from break and just opened an email stating CA and NV are having problems with service. I asked if that effects the wired and wirless internet connecting and disconnecting and no dial tone. He says yes because the router connects to
Vonage
at set intervals to communicate. He stated his email has no ET on repair nor are there any discussions on compensation until the problem is resolved. The call center i reached is 3 hrs difference from where I am Pacific Standard Time. The representative said if it is resolved before his shifts ends, he will call/leave a voicemail. He did go to my router and said all my settings are okay.
