I had the exact same problem yesterday... Home phone stopped working and autoforwarded to my cell while I was at work. Went home to troubleshoot and noticed that the router was somehow reset to factory defaults and wireless was unsecured etc... I got in the router via wired connection reset the settings and the router kept rebooting and resetting back to factory defaults. Then I went down and observer the router and noticed it kept resetting itself every couple of minutes.

I assumed I had a bad linksys so I went to the store and bought a dlink route. I went throught the whole process to again secure the wireless side. Called Vonage and had them add the dlink to the account and got everything working.

This morning after arriving at work my wife calls to inform me the wireless isn't working... I walk her through logging into the dlink to look at the settings and lo and behold the dlink has reset itslef to factory defaults. Sad

Does anybody had any idea what is really going on here? Is there some sort of virus/worm out on the net that is hosing up routers with Vonage integrated on them or is there a system wide Vonage firmware push to all their devices that is causing this pain?!

Thanks a lot!

Well, when I got up this morning, voila!, dial tone. The other "good" news is that it appears to have kept the settings I "re-entered" after it was mysteriously re-set to factory settings -- i.e. when I renamed the SSID and re-established WEP on the wireless after the mystery reset, those re-set settings were still there this morning (although my "original" pre-mystery reset settings are apparently "gone", probably for good).

The problem is that the router is still fairly fubared. Internet connection is still spotty at best -- both wired and wireless. Not to mention, it keeps dropping the connection to the router since my connection to my NAS is dropping in and out. So, something's still not right with the firmware.

I had to leave for work, so I'm not able to "play" with it now, but I am on hold with Vonage to find out what happened and when it will be fixed...I am an optimistic bugger.

On the morning of the 14th (in PA) everything started fine. Then, the router started resetting itself, same as everyone here experienced. I noticed that it went into reset every time it reached the phone light, so I unplugged the phone line and the problem disappeared--until yesterday evening. Then, the router started the same resetting, even without the phone connected.

Luckily I was too busy to run to the store and get a new router. As I was googling info last night on what type of router to buy, I came across this forum.

Thanks to all for making your experience available. I hope my piece of the puzzle with the phone line twist helps someone figure this one out.

I am being told by a particularly unhelpful "tech support" rep that according to their server, they were attempting to push a firmware upgrade to me (version 5.01.04) and my device "timed out" in the middle which cause the upgrade to fail and also caused the loss of service, loss of all connections and re-setting to the factory defaults.

When pressed on why I'm continuing to have intermittent connection problems with the router, and why several people on the internet with the exact same router are reporting the exact same problem, she said thought it was probably the same scenario and that what I need to do to "fix" it was trigger the firmware update again.

To do that, she said I need to unplug the router for 10 minutes and then hopefully it would trigger the firmware to upgrade from 1.00.62 to 5.01.04. She also suggested I backup the settings in the administration/management/backup and restore menu on the router page.

I will try this when I get home and let you know how it goes.

This appears to have happened before:

http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic18981.html

Given all of the problems reported in that thread, I'm a little concerned about the integrity of the Version 5 firmware, but I will be a dutiful little soldier and manually reset my router back to factory settings (again) and disable wireless (as suggested in the above thread), then leave it unplugged for 10 minutes, then press hte reset button to attempt to force the Version 5 firmware and see what happens. If it works, great. If not, I'll call tech support and have them reflash the router with .62 again and disable future firmware updates.

I'll keep you posted.

Amazing! I've been online the last couple hours looking for a new router. Now I see that the power outage at my house a couple weeks ago may not have been the cause of the problems I've been seeing lately.

The next day, I noticed my router reset back to the default settings. Earlier this week, it did it again. 2 nights ago, I couldn't save any settings in my router. It kept reverting back to the login. I'm guessing my phone service stopped at that time because it wasn't working yesterday.

I wonder how many other people out there are having the same problems but have not found this thread yet.

I'm not wasting my time on the phone with Customer Service. I have opened an electronic ticket (and it only took me 5 tries because the router kept rebooting) and specifically requested they not update my Linksys WRTP54G router to the 5.01.04 firmware, but leave it alone at its current 1.00.62, which has been working fine. At least it was since November 2007, when I had to do the same thing before. Sad

If they can't/won't prevent the firmware update, I'll request a replacement router of a different make and model. If they don't/won't provide one free, or at an extremely minimal charge, then I'm voting with my wallet. There are other Voip providers.

I'll let you know what I hear back.

MrDolomite.

I tried to get a different device today was told that becuase my current device can be made to work (see next) they cannot replace it even if I pay.

The work around would be to make the LAN IP's static. I told her that is unacceptalbe I need DHCP to work for my wireless devices. The CSR told me my only other option would be to buy a new device at a retail store , her system will not let her send me a new device unless she exhuasts all options Angered

Never thought I would say thie but I'm about ready to cave in and go with Comcast DV Eek

Currently have a dial tone and my settings seem to be staying put so far with the 1.00.62 firmware. I ~am~ still getting that little pop-up telling me a local cable is unplugged from time to time, but surfing has been ok (although I haven't tried and big downloads, etc yet.)
