The Vonage adpater looks like it is doing the job.

Once you are done with the stpes I provided earlier, and you are still not connected, type:

ipconfig /release

then type:

ipconfig /renew

. . . and see if you reconnect. This releases the prvious IP and then asks for a new one.

Took awhile to get my connection back this time. One observation I made is that I lost internet about same time it shows "expires" in the previous post. I'll leave that to you experts to check.

I did do a ping 216.109.112.135
It did a "request timed out" 4 times

here is the ipconfig /all:

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name: FB-PC
Primary DNS Suffix:
Node Type: Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled: NO
WINS Proxy Enabled: NO

Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
Description: NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller
Physical Address: 00-04-4B-03-4B-AC
DHCP Enabled: Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes
Link-local IPv6 Address: fe::78ed:eded:b2a0:96ba%8(Preferred)
IPv4 Address: 192.168.15.2(Preferred)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Lease Obtained: Thursday, February 14, 2008 6:56:44 AM
Lease Expires: Thursday, February 21,2008 5:05:41 PM
Default Gateway: 192.168.15.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.15.1
DHCPv6 IAID: 201327691
DNS Servers: 24.247.15.53
24.247.24.53
NetBIOS over Tcpip: Enabled

Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 6:

Media State: Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
Description: Microsoft ISATAP Adapter
Physical Address: 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0
DHCP Enabled: No
Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes

Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 7:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
Description: Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface
Physical Address: 02-00-54-55-4E-01
DHCP Enabled: No
Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes
IPv6 Address: 2001:0:4137:9e66:2cf2:b1e:3f57:f0fd(Preferred)
Link-Local IPv6 Address: fe80::2cf2:b1e:3f57:f0fd%9(Preferred)
Default Gateway: ::
NetBIOS over Tcpip: Disabled

I will try the /release-renew next disconnect.

Thanks

release-renew didn't bring back the internet connection. I had to power off-power on the Vonage adapter (only adapter, not cable modem too), but it only took 1 time doing it instead of 4-7 times plus powering off cable modem as I usually have to do..

Just noticed something in reviewing your Router status:

I misunderstood your post . . .it is obvious the problem lies between the cable modem and the Vonage device.

Verify that your PC works withoput the Vonage router. If so, the problem is with the router and you will need to talk to Vonage about a solution.

I was just looking at the Event Viewer and found many daily entries of this

Yes, pc works fine without the Vonage device. I just signed up for and installed Vonage last week. Before that I had ran the cable modem for about 3 weeks with no problems.

I would verify that and then tell Vonage that your Vonage device does not renew its ip, loses internet without a reboot.

Hi,

It looks like FreddieB has a very similar problem to mine. The status he posted looks very similar to what I have when my V-Portal loses its IP. And by the way, I also have this entry in the event viewer. The V-Portal DHCP may be unable to work when this situation occurs.

Strangely enough, I am on my fourth day without observing the problem. The IP lease will expire near 4PM today. I'll see then.

Meanwhile, FreddieB, can you indicate what type of broadband adapter you have? Mine is a Samsung InfoRanger (pretty old but still working fine and fast).

I have a D-Link DCM-202 cable modem.

I reset winsock at command prompt with a "netsh winsock reset" command.

I also reset TCP/IP Internet Protocol Stack with a "netsh int ip reset" command.

That seemed to help alot. I did lose internet connection but not til after about 10 hours idle. And I didn't lose it until I started doing some web surfing.

My Voip test also was much improved...no packet loss and QoS was 99%.

I think we are on to something here.....some problem with the winsock. I am now thinking about doing a complete format/reinstall of Vista.
