I noticed Charter is giving you a very short lease (1 hour). This could be a temporary lease for initial connection, but when you try to renew, there is something wrong with the account or other verification settings.
So, a shot in the dark (google search "charter internet won't work router mac address") showed similar problems/solution :
I do not know if Charter or the cable modem likes to see the same MAC address that it saw when first set up, but you can try one of the two:
Shut off your cable modem for a while 10-15 minutes. and resatrt and see if eveything works out.
Clone your PC's MAC address in the Vonage device. |

Before you re-format and re-install, you may wish to try WinSock XP Fix 1.2 at http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
Probably should run a spywre scan first . . . Spyware is notorious for screwing up your LSP's |

I turned power off to the cable modem for 45 minutes. After rebooting everything I now have a lease of 7 days. Looks like that and resetting the winsock/tcpip have have solved my problem. I'll post back if it acts up again.
One question: Does that Winsock XP Fix work with Vista? I may run that anyway if it does.
A BIG thanks for everyone's help!

It is made for xp, and does check registry values against installed programs, etc., changes the registry. . . .I would not use it on VISTA unless there is a version for it. |

BTW, I never had to fix theLSP's or the Winsock on VISTA.
A quick check showed you were able to do so without external software:
What netsh winsock reset command does are it resets Winsock Catalog to a clean state or default configuration. It removes all Winsock LSP (Layered Service Providers) previously installed, including the potential malfunctioned LSP that causes loss of network packets transmission failure.
NOTE: all previously-installed LSPs must be reinstalled. This command does not affect Winsock Name Space Provider entries.
Note: To check which LSPs installed on your Vista system, use "netsh winsock show catalog command".

BTW,
Hope all is fixed. If this is it, maybe Vonage can come up with a error code that says the router received dhcpnack instead of dhcpack in the attempt to connect via DHCP.
Then train the customer serive people on possible solutions.
My rant is finished |

Check the Vonage device again and see if you have a valid IP, etc.
Youe lease was for 7 hours. Typically, a lease renew request would start at 3.5 hours |

I will be interested to see how this gets resolved as I have the same problem. I might have a different setup, but I'm running a WRT54G router with dd-wrt installed. I have the v-portal connected to a port on the router rather than installed between the router and modem. I can go about two days before I loose my connection. From what I've been reading, the problem seems to be with the same MAC being recorded by Charter (which I also have). Is this correct? |
