Greetings:

I have a problem with a V-Portal device and connecting it to a Dlink 524 Wireless G router (a supported router indicated by the Vonage site). The problem I'm having is that either the Vonage phone works and I have no internet connection on my PCs or I have internet connection on my PCs and the Vonage phone doesn't work. Does anyone know how to get both of them to work? I've been researching and e-mailing Vonage Technical Service, but neither of them are helping at the moment.

Here's my information per instructions:

1. Your location
- Los Angeles, California, United States

2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc)
- SBC (now AT&T) DSL

3. Upload and download speeds
- Not sure, but I'm paying for the Professional package so it's faster than basic DSL.

4. Modem make and model
- SpeedStream 5100

5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2
- Vonage VPortal (aka VDV21-VD)

6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
- DSL Modem --->Vonage Adapter ---> Wireless Router --> Multiple PCs (wireless and wired)

7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc
- Either I have Internet on my PCs or my Vonage Phone -Never both, which is getting a little bit frustrating.

8. Run this Voip Test: After the test has fully completed, in the Advanced Tab, click on "View Text" in the lower right hand corner. Copy-N-Paste that data into your post.
- Can't get to the Advanced Tab - It always crashes my browser.

Additional Information:
I put my V-Portal on the same subnet as my router. My router is DCHP enabled and it distributes IPs from 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199. I've set my V-Portal on 192.168.0.199 and turned off DCHP on the V-Portal. I added PPPoE on my V-Portal and have it set on PPPoE passthrough which my router also has PPPoE on it.

I read things about DMZ and tried it, but it made it worse, so I took it off.

If anyone can help me, I really appreciated it. I've been trying to get it to work for about 2 days now.

I'm not a networking expert, but the normal way to do what you're doing is to enable DHCP on the V-portal. Connect the output (LAN) port on the V-portal to the WAN port on the Dlink. Enable the Dlink as a DHCP server, but set it's address range to something different from the output range of the V-portal; i.e., 192.168.0.xxx for the V-portal and 192.168.1.xxx for the Dlink.

Let the V-portal assign an address to the Dlink and let the Dlink assign addresses to its clients.

Thanks Steve48. Your tip really helped me out a lot. At first it didn't work when I set my Vonage device to DCHP enabled, but then it got me thinking. If the Vonage Device is DCHP enabled with PPPoE, the Dlink router shouldn't have PPPoE, but rather a dynamic IP address. After I turned off PPPoE on the router and set it to Dynamic, everything works.

I do have a follow up question though. Does anyone know what the latest firmware version for the V-Portal is? For some reason, it keeps saying, Upgrade in process. It then restarts itself after a few minutes and continues. It did that for a whole entire day. My device is up 2.5.1.

I did notice something strange though. It did say 2.7.5 once, but after it restarted itself, it went back to 2.5.1?

Glad you got it working. I should have mentioned that you might have to change the WAN settings for the Dlink if it used to be the device connecting with the DSL.

I don't know what the latest firmware is for the V-portal, but I know it's changing. It's been mentioned here and here.

Thanks, Steve. Someone told me that the latest firmware is 2.7.5 which is what I saw once on the status screen, but it always reverts back to 2.5.1 . Does anyone know how to make it stay at 2.7.5??
