PostPosted: Fri Dec 24, 2004 1:27 am    Post subject: Is beeping in call, fixed yet??? Vonage...anyone????? Reply with quote Back to top

Hi all,

I have read numurous posts on this issue. For those not familiar with this, I'm referring to the beeping that occurs on occasion while speaking on the phone.
It sounds like beep when you hit a touch tone button on your cordless phone. Usually only the listener on the other end hears it. For me it happens when I have talked on the phone for more than 20 minutes to a half hour.
Sometimes I'll hear it on my end.

My question is, does Vonage know about this issue? How are they resolving it, or do they have a fix to this? What causes the beeping?

Can anyone offer some insite on this?

I have heard this as well.... and I've heard it times when I KNOW it's not the other person accidentally pushing a button.. ie I've called an automated system such as 1-800-555-TELL (I often use that to test my Voip quality as I can listen to news/weather hehehe)..

But I'll be listening to news and hear beep like a single touch tone as you described.

This problem has been reported for as long as I have been reading this forum. I too hear it, and like previous posters in the other threads have stated it seems to happen when I am talking to a woman with a high pitched voice. I dont know why Vonage has not fixed this problem yet. I also would be intrested to know if it happens on any other Voip services or is this just a Vonage issue.

these will answer the question about if Vonage knows and how long this problem has been occuring (check the dates and ATA's these people were using). it's not just a Vonage issue. you can find that out by searching the Voip forum at dslreports.com. there's one example at the bottom.

I've checked multiple Voip discusssion and Voip troubleshooting guides, and they ALL report there is the same problem on their service as well. This is not a Vonage problem only, it's Voip specific. Getting this problem resolved could take months to figure out. I'll be happy when I hear the Vonage tech support say "we know there's a problem, you don't have to change out your adapter, it's not your phone, it's not your wiring, it's nothing on your end - it appears to be something specific to this technology, and we're working on finding a solution." Don't buy their excuses!

It's caused by the way Voip handles touch tones.. Voip listens for certain high frequency signals (I believe) which are not sent over the regular audio channel... a woman's voice will generate this tones or close to them sometimes and you may hear the touch tones when talking to women.

I have used IConnectHere - voice quality is better than Vonage, no pops, squeaks or touchtone noises.
