7. For a year or more the quality of my Vonage line sounded great. Recently my voice conversations have degraded to the point I'm no longer using my Vonage line and i'm taking all my calls on my cellphone now. The effect is a stuttering. A person saying "hello" to me sounds like: "he-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-lo-lo-oh-oh-oh".

Your test results aren't wonderful, but they aren't bad either. First, are you using a 2.4 GHz cordless phone? If you are, try a corded phone. 2.4 GHz cordless phones and wireless routers are a bad mix. Even if you've been using them without problems for awhile.
Second, have you set QoS in the WRT54GL to favor the RT31P2? If not, you should do that. |

I had this problem before as well. I think the phone I was using was "going," as they say. I upgraded to a better business phone (I use Vonage for my home office) and that seems to have solved the problem, although there will be the occasional stutter. |

Try connecting a laptop directly to the Broadxent 8012 Modem and do a speed test. If you have the RT31P2 connected to the WRT54GL, then try and connect the RT31P2 directly to the Broadxent 8012 Modem, then your PC. Check the speed test again and try a call.
If all is good, reconnect as before but disable the wireless and test:
"From the Network Mode drop-down menu, select the wireless standards running on your network. If you have both 802.11g and 802.11b devices in your network, keep the default setting, Mixed Mode. If you have only 802.11g devices, select G-Only. If you have only 802.11b devices, select B-Only. If you want to disable your wireless network, select Disable."
This should help isolate the probem. |
