PostPosted: Sat Feb 02, 2008 5:02 pm    Post subject: Cancellation Fee? Reply with quote Back to top

My Vonage Account is one year old on Feb. 21, 2008. Yesterday, after 20 minutes of telling the Customer non-Service rep to cancel my account, he told me I had to pay a $39.99 cancellation fee? Why should I have to pay a cancellation fee? When I tried to cancel my account 5 months ago I was told I would have to pay the balance of the year (~$150) to cancel. Now that my term is up, I'm supposed to pay a cancellation fee to cancel a service that is one of the worst I've ever had to deal with?

When the Customer non-Service rep asked me why I was cancelling I told him "because the Customer Service SU**S" - he must have asked me 3 more times why I was cancelling. I told him I wasn't answering anymore questions - JUST CANCEL MY ACCOUNT! This went on for 20 minutes. Finally, he said it would cost me $39.99 to cancel. I told him I would NOT pay it. He told me he wouldn't cancel my account until I did.

This is just wrong!

Then you didn't read the terms of service.

8.7 Disconnection Fee (Does Not Apply to Business Plus Customers).
You will be charged a disconnection fee of $39.99 per voice line if your service is disconnected, subject to state and local laws. However, if your subscription date is on or after February 1, 2007 and is disconnected after 2 years following your subscription date, the disconnection fee is waived. If your subscription date is on or before January 31, 2007, the disconnection fee is waived if your service is disconnected 1 year following your subscription date.

Some people just don't want to read. This was also included with the Vonage documentation that came with the Vonage adapter. He had 30 days to try out Vonage and also to read the TOS, guess he was too busy trying out Vonage.

As to with any Voip service, you may have to pay a fee to have your sevice disconnected. people need to read the TOS and need to stop complaining.

Even Ma Bell likes to charge disconnection fees for some services. I had long distance, 600 minutes on my Bell line for 15.00, I removed it after getting Vonage . . but they started charging me a long distance access fee of 5.95 per month. I called and said I do not want ANY long distance . . .they said a LD disconnect fee of 5.95 would be charged.

Bell calls it an "order fee". You ordered the LD to be disconnected.

Rolling Eyes don't you love it?

If Vonage had distinctive ring for another #, and worked with the Alarm Co., I would get switch that line as well.

If I understood what I read above correctly, if my subscription date is Feb 1st 05, I shouldn't have to pay any cancellation fees correct?

That is the way I read it, but there is also verbiage about an auto renewal fee, I assume month to month unles you are on the annual 19.95 plan, then I would assume it auto renews for 1 year.
