I am on a boat, with two laptop computers, connected to the internet via a WiFi connection provided by my marina. The laptops can connect well to the marina, but I decided to add a wireless access point, and a Vonage VT2542 router, so that I could use this WiFi connection for Vonage service, and also improve the connection when I move to other marinas.
The access point is an Engenius 3220 EXT, and it works well. When I use it directly, I never have any problems connecting to the Marina. When I insert the VT2542 between the AP and my computers, I get good connections, but every 30 minutes, at 12 minutes after the hour, and 42 minutes after the hour, the marina seems to disconnect and require us to re-login. The marina does not have any userid or password, but you do have to click on a "proceed" button in a login screen, which seems to send a generic login userid and password to authorize the connection. I can re-connect usually by just refreshing a web-page, which pulls up the login page, which I click on to keep going, but it is irritating that I need to do this, sometimes after only about 10 minutes on-line. Sometimes, I have to login to the router and reset it, but this is unusual. We have noted that the same thing happens now to our laptops, and were wondering whether the marina ISP may have detected Vonage being used and decided to limit access.
This also affects the Vonage phone, which is off-line, and unable to receive calls when the connection drops. (note that the connection has now dropped once while I have been composing this message).
Does anyone know whether there are any settings that I can adjust to keep the VT2542 connected? I have also noted that the settings are lost when the machine re-boots, and this is troubling, for security reasons. I would like, eventually, to use the VT2542 as a wireless repeater inside the boat, without wired connections to the computers. I have actually operated it like that, but it loses the connections, and I have to connect the wire to get the connection back.
Any advice would be appreciated. |

I would suggest that you discuss this situation with the marina. it does not appear to be a Vonage issue. I do not believe there is any such configuration option in your Vonage adapter either. |
