I have the Wrtp54g and since September have been having all kinds of issues with losing internet and phone many times every day. I am tired of this and bought a new non Vonage Linksys router WRT160N. I now want to put the Wrtp54g behind this new wireless router and use it only as a Vonage phone adapter. I think I know how to physically set it up but what settings do I need to make in order for the Wrtp54g to act as only the phone adapter. Do I have to go into the admin page and make sure certain things are checked? Do i have to call Vonage and set this up with them and give them the new router info numbers. I just want to make sure I have the proper settings in order to get this to work. Any advice from you experts would be greatly appreciated. I am losing my mind getting booted constantly!!

You don't have to make contact with Vonage. Just go into the WRTP54G setup and disable it as a DHCP server. Turn off its wireless function and it should be fine as just an adapter. Make your connection from the WRTP54G WAN port to a LAN port on the new router. Be sure to set up QoS in the new router to favor the Vonage adapter.

Not sure what phone you're using, but I had this exact problem and bought a new phone (GE 6.0 DECT) and haven't had a problem since. The old one was 2.4ghz and must have been getting confused, i guess Lol

Anyway, the problem was getting really annoying, considering I was having calls forwarded to my cell. Getting calls on my cell from telemarketers all day long was no fun...x2 weeks. Finally just spent the money and bought the phone. It's been 2 days and all is well.

Actually, there are no settings you really need to do on the WRTP54G. Just plug a LAN port from your new router into the WAN/Internet port on the WRTP54G, and reboot the WRTP54G. Done.

It can't hurt to turn off the DCHP settings as Steve suggested, and do the Wireless and QoS while you're at it - that all frees up memory which can only help.

If you want to be able to configure the WRTP54G from your network, the basic settings for "remote administration" are on one of my Vonage articles at http://vonage.nmhoy.net/wrt54gl.html (you can skip the parts about the WRT54GL, which is the router I use in front of my WRTP54G).
