Hey guy I was about to sign up and make a post very similar to the one that started this thread. But then I found this thread and skimmed through it and thought I made a serious mistake moving to Vonage.
But reading what Carl had to say gave me some hope. I had decided to try something silly. I was going to pass the connection to my punch down block through my power strip rather than connecting it right to the V-Portal. With the hope that maybe it would contain something that would filter out the apparent interference that was causing my error 013.
But before I did I noticed the power strip had an LED for ground and it wasn’t on. So I grabbed a 3 prong extension cord and ran it to an outlet I was sure had a proper ground. Now with the power strip showing a proper ground I hooked everything back up and it works. I didn’t pass the connection through the power strip like I was going to try. All it took was making sure the V-Portal was connected to a properly grounded outlet.
So to recap I now have 16 live phone outlets in my house working perfectly with the V-Portal. I only have 2 phones and nothing else connected to these outlets and I am aware I can never use all 16 at once. But unlike when I first connected the V-Portal they are all working and all it took was correcting a faulty ground at the power receptacle.
I don’t know if this will help anyone else or not but I was getting the same Code 013 error with the exact same symptoms and the OP and I now have over 5x the number of outlets he is trying to connect working without error. It now passes the line test. So now with a properly grounded outlet my V-Portal is able to filter out the RF interference |

I too, am having a problem connecting via the house wiring. everything worked fine for the first week and then, acted as if there was a phone off the hook. Vonage CS suggested a tech to check the wiring which I refused. The wiring did not go bad in a week. I am sure that it is a problem with the Vonage Voip box. It is not a Q24 hr problem either like some people are experiencing. That is clearly a scheduled process on the Vonage side that they should be able to identify and correct. I have not been able to get the system working again over the house wires. Has anyone had and now resolved the whole house wiring challenge? Thanks, Ed |
