Just an update...I received an email today stating the trouble had been resolved. So when I got home, I tried it and sure enough, it worked just fine. I recorded my name and hung up. I figured hey, let's try it again and see, well....no joy, the problem was back.

So I decided I was through and called to cancel my service. Of course all the normal "Why" questions were asked and after I explained I was frusterated with the technical trouble I was getting no resolution to, I was transferred to the upper level tech dept in NJ. The tech there immediately told me that this is indeed a known issue with the V-Portal and that the next firmware update should resolve it. He didn't have a time frame on that release, but said it shouldn't be too long.

It was sure a relief to finally be told that there was a known issue with the device and that they are working on a resolution. I hadn't heard that from any of the previous reps I'd spoken with.

He also answered several other questions I had. So I'm sitting tight and am going to keep my service for now.

Just thought I'd post an update since I know there are others experiencing the same trouble.

That is good news. I was hoping to not go down that road, so I appreciate you doing that already. I'm hoping that we're talking no longer than 2-3 weeks, but we'll see. Meanwhile I'll use my (other) Voip line to update the greeting when needed. Thanks again!

Yes, that's the exact "work around" the tech suggested. I'll be doing the same. Hopefully it won't take long to get that fixed, but at least it's not a major service issue.

2 - 3 weeks sounds about right. From what information I can gather, Feb. 15th is when the new firmware should be available (maybe earlier).

I posted this in "Hard Wiring" as well but the firmware should be released sometime tonight/tomorrow morning. This firmware is supposed to fix the DTMF issue we are experiencing when in the voicemail system.

Very cool! Thanks for the update. It's nice to see Vonage making it happen sooner than later. I'll keep an eye on the firmware version on the V-Portal.

I just talked to a Tier II support analyst and it was confirmed that the update should come down tonight. He also said that as the V-Portal is continuing to be sold and now used by more and more users that the engineers are keeping an eye on issues that are arising and will make sure that firmware updates are sent regularly as needed to correct any issues discovered.

I was happy to first be directed to a tier II support person just by calling the normal 800 number, and two to be told that the V-Portal will continue to receive updates as needed in a timely manner to correct any issues that are found. He also stated that they are increasing their tier II support numbers to allow more calls to come to them directly and not have to go to Tier I. Let's hope that' is true. Good stuff!

That's great. They've also been discussing a home wiring issue with the V-portal in the hard wiring forum. Hopefully this update will cure that as well.
