Linksys lists a firmware 1.30.07 version upgrade available for RT31P2 (version 1.0) as 10/20/06. My 2004 purchased Linksys RT31P2 router lists NO model version # next to it on the bottom of the router where Model and version numbers are listed. (But the firmware version numbers are apparently sequenced properly) Vonage says it automatically upgrades firmware, but how is that possible if the router setup pages has "Remote Upgrade" disabled under the Management section on the Administration tab of the router's setup pages? It came that way, I didn't change it. It also requires a Remote Router Access password too. Flashing firmware upgrades are tricky business; when and how would Vonage pull this off without any interruptions and problems?
I'm having to power-off and power-on my RT31P2 router often to get it to speed back up (temporarily) ... so I suspect my 2004 purchased Vonage Linksys RT31P2 router is getting old and need of upgrade. But that's not possible and I don't trust Vonage when it says it upgrades automatically. If Linksys has gone from 1.30.01 (who knows when) to 1.30.07 as of 10/20/06 with apparently 6 incremental upgrades and Vonage doesn't care to keep up with Linksys' upgrades... how do I resolve my Internet speed problems? And my Vonage fax line is having transmission error codes displayed (FAILURES) as well. HELP! Thanks!!! |

The latest Vonage firmware for the RT31P2 is 1.30.01. It has been for several years.
Vonage makes custom versions of their firmware for their devices which is why the versions are different. I don't know if the numbers correspond to what Linksys version they started with, but this could be the case. Regardless that doesn't really matter since the version you have is the latest.
As far as I know there aren't any problems with this firmware. In general this is known as a very stable device.
Also just so you know they do have the ability to automatically upgrade your firmware remotely, regardless of the settings you see in the router's config page. Those settings only lock down the ability to upgrade it via the routers web page, which is not how they do it.
You certainly sound like you are having an issue, but I wouldn't give too much thought that the firmware is the issue.
I would look at this post and post the details asked for in it so that people can try to see what your issue might be:

I see a couple threads regarding the firmware version on these routers. If Vonage automatically upgrades, then why is mine still. at 1.28? |
