I am unable to hear the ring (sometimes on one tone) then nothing however, people call me back and say they can hear me fine. If someone calls me, it works fine. I have rebooted and checked router settings. My ISP has tested my connection at 47.5 mbps without the VT2142 router. I spent at least four hours today with the Vonage help desk with no answer. Could the router be bad? Any ideas? Thanks from Japan

Same problem here this morning with a VT2442. I can dial and sometimes, but not always hear a ring, but I can't hear the party I called. It's the same when I dial my Vonage number from my cell phone; the Vonage phone rings but I hear no received audio.

I think it's a Vonage problem.

What to post when having technical difficulties (sticky at top of forum)

http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic7191.html

This will help tell if it is Vonage problem or internet connection problem.

Just spent 1-hour with Vonage support. What ultimately fixed the problem was a hard reset of the adapter (press a toothpick or small object in hole at rear of adapter and hold for 30 seconds, then release).

I am sure glad you posted this solution. I am going to try it (even though I'll loose all my customization).

I, too, have been on the phone with someone in India who can't understand me/I can't understand them. Asked me 12 times if I was calling from my Vonage number even though I told them no, I was calling from my cell phone.

They finally said they would have someone in New Jersey call me back on my cell phone. Guess what? Yhey called back three times on my Vonage line. Needless to say, I could not hear them.

If I wasn't saving so much money I would get rid of Vonage in a flash, simply because of their LOUSY support.

Oh, what is beautiful is: I told them the Forum indicated many other people were having the same problem, yet they insisted on trouble shooting my adapter (except for a hard reset) and my house wiring.

Well, let's hope your solution works.

Hi,

Been having the very same problem about 36 hours now give or take.

Was actually on hold with Vonage TEch support when I hit this thread... Went ahead and did the hard reset...figured it couldn't hurt.

WAY TO GO !!! All fixed !!!

Thanks so much !

The hard reset didn't work for me. What did work was logging into the adapter and setting it back to factory defaults (which is what I thought a hard reset did).

Anyway, back up and running now. Glad I got a clue from this forum.

An update:

Some time after getting it working, I received a call and guess what? Same problem. I did the hard reset and it began to work again, but as Oldguy said, had to reconfigure. I was actually using the VT2442 ahead of my DI-624 router:

SB5100 Modem --->VT2442 ---->DI-624

I had static routing set on the VT2442 for the DI-624, firewall off and in the DMZ (passthrough, simply an ATA)

It seemed that the DMZ may have been causing a problem (I can't imagine why). It's been running this way from day-1.

Now I am using the VT2442 DHCP assignment & no DMZ. We'll see if it will hold up.
