I first want to thank everyone for their time in dealing with my issue.
I have performed all the suggested fixes and the adapter still will not register. Any other thoughts? |

You did say that if you plug it directly into the modem it does register. Right?
What happens if you plug the PAP2 into the moto with the moto plugged into the modem? For the purpose of narrowing down the possibilities leave your Linksys router out of the equation for now. If they both register that will tell us something. |

Brian has a good suggestion there - take the router out of the picture and see what happens. There is one possibility - going back to port forwarding - that the router already is set up with ports forwarded to your original adapter. If so, then the SIP ports are not available for the new one. If you change the order of connection, this may clear the trouble. |

Ie 192.168.xx.2 and 192.168.xx.3 or what ever the case may be.This will put all the equipment on 1 network. Essentially what you have right now is 3 separate networks, all with different ip ranges. |
Did I miss something? I'm thinking he only had two routers. The Linksys and the Motorola from Vonage. I do think that Brian's suggestion will work. The problem must be in your linksys router. Did you log into the linksys and check to see what devices are connected? You should see your pap2 and computer(s) and the motorola device. All the equipment you have connected to the router should be there. |

Yesterday the Motorola adpater worked when direclty connected to the modem. Today no such luck. I don't if what I did with Tech support yesterday before posting here had any effect on it not working today.
So of course when I plug the PAP2 into the Motorola and the Motorola into the modem neither adapter registers.
Just to clarify, I have a Linksys router, a Motorola adapter with router port, a PAP 2 and a wirless cable modem.
When I check for the devices in the router, I assume each device will be listed by IP address? Is that correct? |

Ok, Do a reset of the Vonage moto box. Sorry I should have said that before since i asked you to turn off DHCP before. You wouldn't be able to plug the PAP2 into it with it off.
If it still does not register when plugged into the modem, there is either a problem with the moto or a setting in your modem/router.
To check for the devices connected to the router: look for something like Clients/devices, etc. There should be a list of assigned ips (192.168.x.x) and the Mac address of each, and sometimes a name of the device. You will want to look for the either MAC address of the Moto or PAP. The MAC address can be found on each unit, much like a serial or model number. Mac address will be in this format xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx with both number and letter combos. |

Yes, they will be listed by the Mac and IP address, usually in the DHCP tab. It's starting to look like you got a bum motorola adapter from Vonage. Don't forget to power cycle the cable modem when you switch the device that is connected to it. |

I checked the MAC addresses and I do not see the address of the Motorola adapter. I see the PAP2 and an unknown MAC address (doesn't match any device.) I also do not see the cable modem. I am not sure if I should see this or not. |

You won't see a MAC address for the cable modem, the unknown address is the PC you are using to look at the addresses. Since the Moto isn't showing up, that means it is unable to connect to your network, therefore it will not connect to Vonage.
Since it is plugged directly into the modem, my guess is you have a bad box. Call Vonage for a replacement. |

I ordered a new line and a 2nd adapter; I have 2 Von*** lines already. They work ok. I got the new router shipped in 1 day, but it won't work because its mac address is not in their system. I have called and emailed Von*** support, but they think the router came from some store. It cam right from Von*** in a Von*** box. My main worry is that this won't get straightened out before my Verizon number gets transferred over. Then I won't be able to call out with that Verizon number. In the meantime, the temp number from Von*** should work. Worst case Von*** might say this isn't their router and I will have to sue them to get my money back. I am typing Von*** because the posting rules dictate that you can't say Vonage in the subject line. Why not? That is a crazy rule. I need to say Vonage there to specify thats where I got the router from not from a store. |
