I'm not a Vonage customer. But apparently, someone with an email address similar to mine signed up for Vonage, but mistyped their email as mine. Vonage's fantastic signup protocol apparently doesn't confirm the address (a GIGANTIC security hole), so I get all the Vonage email meant for them. Eventually, they figured it out and changed the address (I guess they were getting tired of their number transfer request not getting confirmed). But for some reason, every time they get a voice mail, I get a .wav version of the voicemail emailed to me.

This would be great if I wanted to steal their identity, as most of the messages are left by bill collectors (and the remained by mush-mouthed morons going, "Jen, ah need you t'call me bout pickin' up yo' kids at day cayur, mah pho' nummer be fi-fi-fo-fee-fi-fo-fo. Praise Jebus." I swear, one sounded like this.)

I've written Vonage multiple times about this. Once they replied back and said they'd fix it, but they haven't.

Can anybody help me out here? Who can I write to? Customer service isn't cutting it. Anybody got Vonage's CEO's address? My next step is going to be to start a website where I publicly post all this chick's email and explain how awful Vonage's service is.

I would doubt Vonage will be too much help. Can you set up filters either through your ISP or your email client? just block the Vonage address.

Really? It's that hard for them to go the Big Database of Email addresses and hit "delete"?

OK then, guess it's time to see if "vonagesucksbigfloppydonkeydongs.blogspot.com" has been taken and start posting those voice mails!

I agree that Vonage should have some sort of verification process when adding email notification to your account.

I use this service as well as the SMS text messaging service and I love it. I would hope that if I accidently type the wrong email address that someone would be understand and try to help get it resolved. I know that you contacted Vonage support and they were supposed to fix it. I love my Vonage service, but I know from the few times I have had to contact support that it has not exactly been the best experiences. They have had poor reviews on CS for a while, but I've also read they are trying to get better.

IdeaI would suggest that you look at one of the emails you have received and it contains the Vonage customer's phone number (Should be in the "TO" part of the email). Why don't you try calling and letting them know that you've been receiving their email voicemails and not only is it annoying but it is a security issue for them and ask them to correct it ASAP. Not only does that get your problem solved faster than Vonage could probably do it, but it's also sort of a courtesy thing to do.

Judging by your tone in your postings, you'll probably blast my post and if that's what you need to do to feel good about yourself, then be my guest! Confused

It's the principle of the thing. That would be a long distance call from my landline, or use minutes from my cell phone. I shouldn't have to pay because some nitwit can't be bothered to type the right email address, and because Vonage isn't able to figure out that they can just change the email address themselves. I've emailed the other party--no response.

I think posting all her personal information and voicemails on a website would teach all involved a valuable lesson--and hopefully give Vonage some well deserved bad publicity. Honestly, how can you not verify the email address as part of your signup procedure???
