Recently I have received calls and found an IP address (63.77.214.17) instead of a telephone number in the caller ID. My Vonage service is still working great, but this is something new. I don't pay too much attention to the caller ID anyway, but am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and knows the what and why of the phenomenon. |

My caller ID has been goofy for the last few months. Some calls come through displayed correctly, some come with the number right but the name shows up as random letters, symbols and numbers. Some landline numbers show up named wireless caller. Just lately my calls get forwarded to my cellphone after 4 rings and my call forwarding is not even activated. Oh well I can put up with it for a while but if the monthly fees keep going up like they have been I'm switching to Comcast Digital Voice. |

My caller ID has been wacky too. For a while if I called my Vonage line from my cell it would show "PCS Phone CA", now it's back to "wireless caller". And when I call my folks Vonage line (from cell) it actually comes up with my name. Go figure |

I have also received IP addresses as the caller ID. It turned out the calls were from a firm where my wife works and they have a Voip telephone system. Evidently the system sends out the IP address for the line the person calls out on. On different calls from my wife, the IP address would change depending on which line she used to call out. The administrator for the firm's phone system has the ability to change what is sent out as the caller id info......a phone number or text. The IP address must be the system default value and remains until changed. |

This IP address is: Vonage Holdings Corp. UU-63-77-214-D5 (NET-63-77-214-0-1) 63.77.214.0 - 63.77.214.255 |

That is strange because I get the same thing and the ip address is a Vonage IP. But all those calls are forwarded to my anonymous call message.
I never got to find out who it really is but it happens everyday somethimes twice.

The caller blocked their Caller ID. Something needs to identify the call so you are seeing the IP address where the call entered the network from. |
