Hello All,
I have got a Linksys WRTP54G Router and UTSTARCOM BSNL Modem. when i first set it up i was able to connect to the internet and use the phone. but after half a day of it working it stopped and now its not connecting to the internet or the phone. your assistance is much appreciated in this matter. I am able to connect to the internet just connecting to the ADSL modem and there is no lag... once i connet the ethernet from the modem to WRTP54G and then a CAT5 from the router into the PC i am not able to connect to the internet. I have setup the PPPoe connection in the router and i am getting an Internet IP address as well on the router. I am also able to ping an internet address but not able to browse to that same address either with the IP or the actual address.

The problem appears to be here. Your UTSTARCOM modem can already handle PPPoE which means that you are already connected to the dsl line directly from your modem. so what you need to do is have your router obtain ip address automatically and you should be good to go.
In other words, I would disable pppoe on your router and change it to its default which is "obtain ip address automatically" |

Hello Mundy5,
Thanks for your reply! I have checked the UTSTARCOM modem and it's not a DHCP server so it will not assign a an IP address. When i connected my PC drectly to the modem, i had to make a PPPoE connection from my Pc prior to getting to a web page. The modem is set for a "Bridge Connection" so it should allow any divice that is making a PPPoE connection but in this case its not! |

Samola,
I'm not sure if you have a user's guide with you or not, but here is what I found on the internet:
http://mumbai.mtnl.net.in/triband/htm/utstarusrguide1.0.pdf
In it, under features, it says that the modem can be configured to be a dhcp server. This way, you do not have to mess with your Vonage router and you can also reset your pc to obtain ip address automatically.
it appears that if you change the modem to pppoe mode, this will potentially resolve your Vonage non-functionality issue.
it looks like p. 17 on your pdf which is actually p. 11 on the users guide will help you. I'd make sure to configure under the LAN and make the modem the DHCP server.
hope this helps. |
