With all the talk about Vonage's imminent financial demise/bankruptcy, I'd like to list the features that would ensure this company's survival.
I've cancelled 3 virtual lines with them already and am hanging onto my main line for the time being.
So these are features that would convince me to KEEP my Vonage account indefinitely if instituted. Feel free to add your own.
1. SOFTPHONE for an existing number: I'd like to be able to register my laptop so that whenever I want, calls that ring on my main Vonage router also simultaneously rings on a softphone installed on my laptop.
With the amount of mobile computing that Vonage users engage in, it would be ideal to answer phone calls on the road without having to lug around the Vonage router, telephone, cables, AND worry about connecting it to an ethernet cable and power socket. (when we all know that hotels are mostly Wi-Fi these days).
2. LANDLINE backup: Ability to hook up a landline to the Vonage router so that when my Internet access is interrupted (or Vonage goes down), incoming calls are forwarded to my landline for 100% reliability.
3. RELIABILITY: This is not a feature as much as a wish-list. I know for a fact that Vonage numbers have problems receiving in-coming calls from certain phone numbers. E.g. Certain German callers can NEVER reach me on my Vonage line, despite trying their landline and mobile lines. I've had US callers have problems reaching me as well. This is obviously a no-go if Vonage ever wants to make a profit by getting small business customers like Packet8. |

1. I agree. The soft phone looked to me like something that should be a standard feature, not something I pay extra for. I would love to use it to make international calls while traveling so I don't have to have a calling card.
2. This already exists. In the Features section of your Vonage account you will see Network Availability Number. Select the desired Vonage number from the drop down menu and then 'Configure'. This will take you to a page where you enter the number you would like to forward to when your router is not logged in to Vonage.
3. I feel this is not a wish list issue but something with Vonage. I often cannot call China on Vonage even though I can on my calling card and <gasp> my cell phone, so I think Vonage is still on a learning curve for international calling. As for U.S, calling, I haven't had any issues that weren't related to my ISP for several years now. I call and receive calls from all across the U.S. and in a typical month I'm on the phone over 2200 minutes. |

Vonage has Vonage Talk, and it is free. You can call any North American number and receive calls from around the world on it. Works just like the soft phone, but it also rings when your main line rings.

I agree with ming.. softphone for an existing number would be awesome. It's certainly on my wish list
I read somewhere that they do this now but maybe not the case? |

I really wish I could use the same number for my v-phone and my regular adaptor. But I have to pay for 2 separate accounts and numbers. I just end up forwarding calls to the adaport if the stick is not in any PC and it works nearly the same, but I have no use for 2 lines, but end up having to pay for it.
My second wish would be the ability to use a normal handset with my V-phone. I go back and forth from home office, business location office, and travel and HATE using the earbuds. Also, all sound comes thru the earbuds including messenger noises etc during calls, quite annoying.
My 3rd wish would be for v-phone to integrate with my outlook contacts |

Vonage should do something about it's spam. I recently purchased Vonage service and received email spam before I even had my V-portal up and running.
I received .wav files as an attachment in my personal email account. After playing one of them I realized it was merely spam from a local car dealer that was sent to my Vonage account. |
