I can't customize caller ID records that come in with a personalized name, such as "Mom", instead of what the default comes in, such as "wireless caller". My call to Vonage was their standard "it's your problem/phone on your end".
I'm tired of looking at telephone numbers and guessing who it is. Can this be fixed? I need help gathering what to post to this forum and/or Vonage. I ran the speed check. How do I know what kind of adapter is used? Thank you.

On caller ID, you get what the phone company sends as caller ID. Some cell phone companies list the subscribers name, others on list that it is a wireless. Vonage has no control over that. At this time, I don't believe they have the capabilities, like your cell phone, that when someone calls, it displays what you have programmed in your phone. That may be a part of the alpha program, "contact book", but I can't say for sure. |

That's exactly what I'm talking about, the "alpha contact book" you referred to. My phone has it's own "phone book" and when a call comes in, it's supposed to match the numbers and display the name I gave it. I tested the phone on another line from another provider we subscribed to over the internet (Add-a-Jack or something like that) to make sure it worked, it's not a problem with the phone.
Why won't this work for the Vonage service? Any suggestions are appreciated! |

That's odd. I have a panasonic cordless phone and it works fine after I enter in the phone number into its phone book.
I must say that it's not necessarily Vonage but it could be some kind of incompatibility. what kind of phone do you have? |

And how do you program the phone? If it's the sort of deal where you identify a call that has come in, and essentially tell the phone "that's Mom", then it may help to re-program it with calls received over the Vonage system. There may be some slight difference in the formatting that is confusing the phone. |

I have the new "Whole Home Solution" set from Vonage which included a DECT 6.0 3 handset phone system. It has a built in 50 number phone book and it took me a few minutes to figure out how to do what you want. I found that I had to enter the full 11 digit number (IE 13045551234) when I assigned it to the phone book. Anything less, 10 digit or 7 digit would not make the connection and show my phonebook "name".
Hope that helps! |

same here. I just enter in say 15557771212 as mom and when she calls, it comes up as mom dialing and it does not give me the phone number. It just looks up the number in its phone book and if it finds it, the phone displays the name and not the number.
However, when it does not find the number in its phone book, it then displays the appropriate CID and incoming number. |

I think the number in your phone should match the number that Vonge transmits exactly, including 1 and the area code. |

Yeah, what exactly happened with Vonage and cellphone caller ID? I used to get names with people that called in from cellphones. Now all I get is "WIRELESS CALLER." This happened a while ago, and is very annoying. |

That depends on the cellphone company. The caller id with one cellphone company shows the name of the caller. The caller id with the other cellphone company shows wireless caller. It was that way for me with caller ID before I switched to Vonage. Caller ID can only show what is in the system. |
