That depends on the cellphone company. The caller id with one cellphone company shows the name of the caller. The caller id with the other cellphone company shows wireless caller. It was that way for me with caller ID before I switched to Vonage. Caller ID can only show what is in the system. |
Not entirely true. My cell company, AT&T, does send my name out but Vonage doesn't recognize it. If I call my friend with a Verizon landline it says my name, and also if I call my folks Vonage line. Yet it will not show my name if I call MY Vonage line.... |

I thank everyone for your responses! I didn't get anymore e-mail alerts of replies to this thread and didn't check the actual forum site. We have two phone brands (I also substituted a third brand to test) hooked to Vonage and they behave the same way. When a CID record comes in, I grab the actual record & save it to the phone's phone book. It will either prompt me to assign it a name (i.e., if the record comes in as "unknown") or it will save the CID record and I edit the saved entry (name or number). I also add information directly into the phone's phone book.
I've tried many (but not all) variations of telephone digit strands. I am beginning to suspect a "mismatch" of the number that's being transmitted by the originating caller's (land or cell) Company --> Vonage --> the phone's internal phone book. I am located in Northern NJ - with a 973 overlay area code (10-digit dialing). Am I crazy here? Honestly, if you can't match a CID to what's in your phone book, what's the point of CID? I need a speadsheet pasted to the phone that show's whose number is whose! Any ideas to what I can do, besides give up? |
