There are a few things in your post that don't make sense to me.
What do you mean by "The Ethernet Standard"?
Like the the Ethernet that Bob Metcalf and David Boggs invented?
I thought most Universities were connected via leased line, not Ethernet, in the Bad Old Days (TM).
ARCNET was pretty popular too in the Bad Old Days (TM). |

I guess NASA used the Voip technology first. I had read an article about this couple of months before. I'm not sure where. Try googlin to find more. |

.. most of the articles i've read tells of Vocaltec, a small company releasing the 1st internet phone software..
"This software was designed to run on a home PC and much like the PC phones used today, it utilized sound cards, microphones and speakers. The software was called "Internet Phone" and used the H.323 protocol instead of the SIP protocol that is more prevalent today."
