no to the collect calls. tried via 1800COLLECT and 1800CALLATT and just 0 and number all get this number doesnt allow collect calls. an alternative is getting the toll free number. much cheaper then the collect calls. depends though some places only allow collect calls (correctional and some state facilities) |

However, in an emergency, a loved one may need to call you collect. I don't think you'ld want to carry an 800 number just for these emergency situations. This is similar to having 911 service available - perhaps Vonage should be required to allow collect calls to go through. |

I have been receiving collect calls from my relative at the CRC in Orient with no problems and no charges. |

No charges? Who is getting the bill for these calls then? |

That's a good question. I've read other posts from people who have been receiving collect calls with no charges. Most Vonage customers can't receive collect calls, but for those few lucky enough to...hopefully Vonage won't come to them one day with a huge outstanding bill |

Collect calls are the biggest scam going in the telephone industry. Even the dialarounds are at $5-$6 for the first minute and a buck a minute thereafter. I hope my Vonage line can't take collect calls, because I wouldn't accept them! It's legalized theft.
The best thing to do is not even Vonage's 800 number...the best thing is to go to one of the warehouse clubs (Sam's, Costco, etc.) and get some prepaid calling cards and give them to family members. 3-3.5 cents a minute with no set up charges or rip-off fees. |
