PostPosted: Wed Jan 09, 2008 1:53 am    Post subject: Simulring Magically Enabled Itself Reply with quote Back to top

I have a strange problem and I'm checking to see if anyone else noticed the same thing. Several months ago I was playing around with the simulring feature and I did enter a number and enabled it to see if it would work, since I was forwarding it to an international cell phone. It worked but I decided that that it wasn't worth the $.23/minute charge to answer a call on my cell phone, specially because caller id on my cell doesn't work when I receive international calls.

Today I logged into my account to look over my bill that just closed on the 6th and I noticed that a call was forwarded to that international cell phone number today the 8th. I'm no longer using that phone but it is still active(being used by my wife's mother and she must have answered the call or there wouldn't be a charge). I did not enable simulring or call forwarding!!! I have not even been to that feature page since the time I was playing around with it a few months back. I checked and sure enough it was enabled. I don't understand how unless my online account has been hacked, but I really doubt it, or some sort of problem with Vonage. Has anyone else had something similar happen? I know there were some problems with enabling and disabling features along with the widespread outages a couple weeks back.

I've changed my account password. I'm calling Vonage tomorrow to check into the issue. It's too late tonight. You may want to check your feature settings to ensure that nothing has changed. Also, does anyone know how to permanently delete the numbers that you have entered into the call forwarding or simulring boxes? I've disabled the simulring and I deleted the number out of the box. However, when I click reset the number is there again and there is no way to delete it for good. No matter how many times I deleted it, clicking on reset always puts the number back in the box. I would really like to have the number deleted with no way of it appearing again just by a simple reset click. I don't want the simulring to somehow become enabled again with that number. Any Ideas? Thanks.

You really can't "remove" the number because it does stay in Vonage's system whether or not it is disabled to make it easier to enable it again. What you can do it place another number in there (a US number this time so you don't have to worry), enable it, then disable it. At least this way it will be the US number instead of the int'l number.

Maybe it is a case of your browser remembering the phone number and inserting it in the box?

I delete my browsing history almost daily so I don't think it's IE that is inserting the numer. Good point though. I do think it's something that Vonage keeps in their system somehow. I think whatumean is right. Thanks for the reply.

One wouldn't think so but like I said, I didn't enable it. The last time it was enabled was the day I was testing it out. I disabled it and never had a problem until the aforementioned day. I didn't call Vonage either. I decided it wasn't worth the trouble unless it happens again. I changed the number in the settings so at least the call won't be answered if something like this should happen again.

Are you using Vonage Talk? If so, when the program is used, Simul Talk is automatically turned on.

It happened again to me and you are right. I tested it a few times and when I sign into VT, the Simulring is enabled in my online account. That is stupid for two reasons. It doesn't just enable the VT username, it enables all the numbers you have in your forwarding list. Why is this stupid? Because there is no way to delete numbers that you have entered into this list. A serious flaw with VT and with the online account in my opinion. I no longer need that phone number there and now when I log into VT it will simulring to that number too. Has anyone ever had success removing old numbers from the forwarding list?

yeah, I agree with you tglea. I noticed the same thing. the biggest con about all this is that you have to manually disable it every time. what a PITA.

Why can't you just update your Simul Talk list to only include the Vonage Talk number? I moved my Vonage Talk number to the top of the list and deleted all the other numbers. That worked for me.
