I just got my VT2142RB today. Everything works great except there is some static on my end. The other end is clear.

When you turn the phone on I hear the same sounding dial tone and a little background noise since its a cordless, but as soon as you start to dial or if you receive a call there is a light static. Its only slightly annoying to me but I don't think the wife is going to be able to deal with it.

Here is how things are set up.

ISP-Comcast

Modem is a newer Scientific Atlanta box.

My Voip test is great except for a 40-60% QoS

Cable~modem~Linksys WRT54G~VT2142RB

I tried using a corded phone and it did not help.
I tried a different cord
I tried the hung up phone on line 2
I tried a shorted cord on line 2

I moved the VT2142RB 4' away from the router and modem

I tried different cables

I set the bandwidth to max in my control panel at vonage.com

I set up Qos on my router so it had the highest priority.

The static is very soft but certainly noticeable.

I searched for hours with no success.

any help is appreciated.

I have the same thing, call it more of a hiss. What is interesting is that when connecting to cell phones or long distance, it generally is not there. When connecting locally to a land line, it is almost always there. I suspect it is the local interconnect rather than on my end.

Try going on line and switching your phone port from phone 1 to phone 2. Does that make any difference?

Please post your detailed Voip test results.

To change ports, log on to your Vonage account page. Select add-ons from the menu, then move a number. You'll get a dialog in which you can switch the ports.

To get the detailed Voip results, go to the advanced tab.

Are you referring to the Voip speed test? Where is the advanced tab?

Looks like you found it. The results look good; nothing there to explain the problem. Any luck with the port switch?

Yes sir. The static is gone now that I am on port 2. Should I keep this router or ask for another?

one other tidbit. When I called my cell phone the caller ID showed up as private. Any quick advice before I start searching for hours. Smile
