Hi,

I live in Chicago and have been using Vonage for a couple of years without any problems. Currently in Norway on vacation and working as needed remotely. I brought my phone with me and have been using it for a couple of weeks without any problems. Since yesterday I have not been able to use my phone.

Yesterday when I tried to make a phone call, I noticed that the 'Ready' light was red. I checked the internet connection and it seemed fine (I was able to browse the internet). Since then I've restarted the router and followed instructions in troubleshooting documents, but haven't been able to get it to work.

When I plug the adapter, the 'Message Waiting' light blinks once. This confirms that the power supply is OK. But no others light up. When I press the 'On' button on the handset, the 'In Use' lights up green. The 'Page' button worked yesterday, but that doesn't seem to work anymore either.

I'm not that familiar with the ISP details in Norway, but I'm able to browse the internet without any problems. I actually have a faster upload/download speeds than in the US. The adapter is connected directly to the router similar to how it was setup at home.

Again I was using this phone for the last couple of weeks without any problems and this started only yesterday.

Any help would be appreciated, since I'm not able to continue to work from here until my phone is working.

Thanks.

Problems with the IP 8100 are almost always related to the power adapter. Mine was acting strange like yours and a new adapter (free from vonage) cured the problem. It's well known that the 8100 power adapters are at best garbage.

You can also buy one At This Site.

Good luck.

I have to advise against buying the adapter from LCD Payless (the EBay URL above). I bought it, and it DOES power the base station, but the "build" of the cord is wrong. Hopefully I can explain this somewhat clearly..

Take a look at the power adapter that comes with the 8100. You'll see that the plastic on the end that gets inserted into the unit is "bent" in half, so that when the 8100 is placed on a surface, the "bent" portion will lay flush against that surface. The adapter from LCD Payless does not have this bent edge; rather it's completely straight and thus protrudes out of the bottom of the unit. It basically makes the 8100 unable to sit on a surface, because there's a half-inch long piece of plastic sticking out of the bottom.

Hopefully that was clear enough. If anyone wants me to try to explain better, let me know.

Ditto. There is another related thread regarding the power supply for the 8100. In my case, the 8100 had a blinking message light then the ready light turned red. I power-cycled device, got one flash on the msg waiting indicator, then it stopped working all together. Mine was less than 6mths old (actually about 3mths) so Vonage sent me a complete replacement.

I had the same issue a couple of months ago and Tech Support said that my power adaptar went. They sent me a new one in the mail for free. Since I got the new power adaptar I haven't had any problems.

Tech Support said that they are aware of the issue.
