I have to reboot (power down and power up) both the WRTP54G router and the cable modem every couple of days to avoid having a 30 second delay between answering a call and being able to speak to the calling person. The problem also occurs when making a call. What's causing this problem and what is the solution (besides rebooting)?

Packet loss server to you 100%?? Yeesh. Remove the Vonage device, plug your PC directly into your modem, and re-run the test.

The packet loss seems to occur whether or not the Vonage adapter (WRTP54G) is in the circuit or not. Here are the results of three tests. The first and third tests are with the Vonage adapter and the second test is with the cable modem only:

The first thing I would try if you have a rented modem from TWC is to get a replacement. It will be free. If after that you continue to have problems, and the packet loss in your test results, call TWC and have them come out and check things out.

BTW, what happens if you ping yahoo.com? Packet loss?

Here are the results of a yahoo ping:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/33954709@N00/2171323127/

In case the link doesn't work, the ping resulted in no packets lost with an average round trip of 23ms.

Seems strange that everything seems to work OK even though the test reports 100% packet loss.

I pinged yahoo.com 218 times with no loss. Wonder why the other test gave such a high packet loss?

I'm starting to think TWC may be blocking/throttling port 5060 and 5061. They may be taking a page out of the ComCRAP screw the customer playbook here. The test as well as your Vonage device use port 5060.

Try calling Vonage and ask them to change your SIP port from 5060/5061 to something else. 5090, 5080, etc. Also ask them to change the RTP Port range as well.

You may be correct. Some time back, I received a call from TWC offering their Voip phone service. I told them I was using Vonage and wasn't interested. I'm not positive, but that is about the time the problems started.
