I just got Vonage, but haven't used it yet. I have NEC multi line phone and I want to set up extensions for each phone. Right now, I have 4 phone extensions that I want. Is there a way to do this? Thanks |

Not with Vonage. Unless you get a separate number for each. |

For 4 separate Vonage "lines", you should have at least 4 Vonage adapters with 2 lines each. Each adapter should have 2 RJ11 phone jacks on it. Connect them to inputs on the NEC system - assuming that it takes in 4 lines as well. This would be no different from getting 4 lines from the phone company and hooking up the same unit. |

Yes, I have 4 adapters and the phones allow up to 10 lines each. When someone calls how do I have an automated system pick up with a greeting and allow for the caller to type an extension in? Do I need some sort of voicemail system? If so, do you reccomend a certain one? Thank you |

The auto attendant and voice mail would be part of your local phone system - and would not have anything to do with Vonage. Vonage would just provide you with 4 lines. On the system, you would set up which lines ring which phones. I don't have any recommendation on those as I have not looked at these things for many years (and any that I would know are likely out of production). |

To do what you want you will need a PBX. I would recommend Asterisk if you want to go the Voip route. Vonage will not work with Asterisk however. |

To clarify: Vonage will not work with Asterisk where Asterisk is connected to Vonage using SIP. On the other hand, if you take the Analog Trunk ports from Asterisk and connect to the Vonage terminal adapters, that should work fine - just be sure to use g.711 CODECs in the Asterisk as you'll end up with multiple Analog/Digital conversions and anything compressed will have degraded audio. |
