At about 2008.1.3 19:20 our call was cut off. Now, when I pick up the phone I get no dial tone, but instead get a busy signal. The phone led on my modem blinks.
Any suggestions on what to do?

Have you tried to reset your devices?
Power them off and then back on in this order, cable modem, router then Vonage device. Allow about 30 seconds between powering each back on.
I don't know the VT2142 so I'm not sue what the blinking light on the Vonage device means. |

Thank you Butterman.
I had not tried resetting because I intuitively felt it would not matter. However your suggestion confirmed my intuition. |

Are you sure the busy signal isn't the voicemail indicator?
Not sure how long you have been using Vonage, but I know this confused me initially when I started using the service.
A blinking phone light on the Vonage device either means that the line is busy or a phone is off the hook (blinking green) , or that you have a voicemail (blinking orange).
If you have more than 1 handset for the phone I would try to check them to see if one is off the hook. You also might want to try another phone just to see if that makes any difference. |

Hi Butterman, And now for the rest of the story:
First of all, it was not a Vonage problem.
Been using Vonage for a year, but I am color blind and don't differentiate led-s that blink in different colors. So your hint about the color of the lights was enlightening: I never learned that the lights blink in different colors. To me they are just lights: On or off.
We do have several handsets and and a lot of trial and error replacing connectors, wires, phones, finally seemed to isolate the problem - accidentally.
I had isolated an apparently faulty phone and was about to throw it into the garbage. I noted Line 1 was still lit reminding me that the phone had batteries in it. I decided to remove the batteries, check them, replace them, and retry the phone. Voila! Problem gone.
Thank you for your suggestions. |
