AT&T wants to charge $200 for "dry loop" on DS

I'm helping a friend drop their AT&T telephone but keep their dsl and switch to Vonage. She called AT&T and was told that she would have to pay a $200 "phone jack charge" to do this. Does anyone know what this is?

Providing customers the choice they actually want is new to them so they abuse you for the privilege. Considering most people pay around $30/month for the honor of NOT using a POTS line, the $200 profit you would pay to AT&T would be re-couped in six months and you would save money after that.

In Arizona a few years back they tried to do this to me. Saying that I had to have a land line inorder to have internet.

Well, I found out that was not true and I called and complained and was credited back all those months that I paid for something that I did not want or even need.

It was very strange. . . . I cashed the refund check when I got it and never looked back. Very Happy
