I am trying to connect my Motorola vt2142 to my linksys wireless 150N router so that I can share my files and printers with both of my computers. I have two Motorola vt2142 with two separate phone numbers and I have 2 open ports on the linksys router. I currently have one of the Motorola's connected in front of the router (i.e. computer to Motorola to linksys). this setup does not allow me to share files. I need info on port forwarding, static ip numbers, etc...
do i use 1925.168.15.2 as the static ip?
can anyone help... |

In front of the router (modem->VT2142->router) or in front of the computer (modem->router->VT2142->computer)?

Why not just plug both of the computers directly into the router? Then they'll be on the same sub-net and able to share files. |

one computer is hard wired into the router (this one) the other one has a wireless net card in it and is in the other room. I am trying to get the wireless PC to see the wired PC. The wired PC is setup like this: Ethernet cable running from the wired PC to the Ethernet port in the Motorola vt2142, the Motorola vt2124 internet port running to the Ethernet port on the linksys wireless router 150N, the comcast modem running to the first open port on the router (this modem also has the comcast cable running into it and lastly the other Motorola vt2142 phone line is running into the second port on the router....done. everything is working fine except I cannot get the wireless PC to see the wired PC. In reading the Vonage literature from their website they said this would work but that I would not be able to share files or printers. I want to try port forwarding, triggering or something else. In other words put the Motorola vt2142 BEHIND the router (i.e. plug the router into the wired PC). I need assistance on the setup of such a configuration... (i.e. do I go into the Motorola setup 192.168.15.1 or do I do it in Linksys 192.168.1.1?), do I use two static IP's (192.168.15.2 and 192.168.15.3) since I have two phone lines or one static IP, which ports do I assign if I assign any at all, etc. |

OK, the problem is that your computers are on different subnets, since one is connected straight to the Linksys (wirelessly) and the other is connected through the VT2142. I gather the reason for this is that the VT2142 and associated computer are in another room from the one in which the Linksys resides. Correct?
If this is correct, the easiest solution would be a second wire from the Linksys room to the 2142 room so that the computer could hook directly into the Linksys. Also, a Vonage VT2442, with 4 LAN ports, can be hooked up to make this work.
If neither of these solutions is in the cards, you need more networking expertise than I bring to the party. While waiting for one of the gurus to jump in, you might want to give this thread a look: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic15982.html . |
