Does anybody know when Vonage plans to introduce Enhanced 911? They have already done it in Rhode Island, so I assume it is only a matter of time before the rest of the country gets it.
Btw, FYI: I have tested 911. I called and told the operator it was not an emergency and that it was a test. The call got routed to the call center at my local Fire Dpt. So I guess that the system works. |

E(nhanced)911 automatically displays your physical address and phone number. It can also do other things (like have maps of the area) but that's more software dependant. the main deal as I understand it is ALI or automatic location identification. I know in my county the ALI is not relied upon unless they can get absolutely no information from the caller. It's just a nice feature if say, you call 911 and you're unable to speak or the phone gets disconnected quickly, the 911 operator has your phone number and address. |

reebok is right. E911 becomes important if you have a young child at home, who knows how to dial 911 in case of any emergency, but may not be able to accurately say the address. |
