No. No easier than it is now. Right now with Vonage in front of the router it is completely unprotected. It will be the same if it is in the DMZ. All Vonage devices are locked to Vonage so even if someone accessed the ATA (via your IP Addy) they would have to unlock it to be able to hijack your service.Basically, same with the PS3.
I don't know your router well enough to help you with static IP's within your network. But you may be able to set up statics on each device. In that case the device (Vonage for instance) would "ask" your router for ip address 192.168.x.x, and if available it will assign it. |

what Vonage router fo you have and what is it's ip? |
it's motorola, and i don't know the ip  |
If it is the Motorola VT2142, the user guide is at: http://www.vonage.com/knowledgeBase/admin/file_download.php?name=VT2142_UserGuide.pdf
In the user guid t shows to log in:
Logging In to the VT2142 1 On a computer connected to the VT2142, open a Web browser. 2 In the Address or Location field, type http://192.168.15.1 and press ENTER to display the Log In page. 3 In the Username field, type router. 4 In the Password field, type the password (the default is “router”). 5 Click Log In to display the HOME page: |
i just looked again; it's the VT1005 Motorola |
Setting up PPPoE for te VT1005 is descibed here:

You should be able to get into your VT1005 at http://192.168.102.1
in my earlier post I was assuming you were at 192.168.15.1, so restating (after you are sure your Vonage Motorola router is at http://192.168.102.1);
set udp 4658 in port forwarding. (see http://2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101035)
You should do this on your Vonage router AND your other router. I like the idea of putting the Vonage router after the cable modem and before your network router, as the QOS settings helps with Vonage calls.
Also, set your network router WAN address to a static IP (on mine, a linksys router with the VT2142 in front of it, I use 192.168.102.2), so the DHCP does not assign another ip and screws up the port forwarding. Be sure to set your Host to 192.168.102.1 and DNS to 192.168.102.1. The addresses asume your Vonage device is set to 192.168.102.1 |
